Lately, people who have never been interested in politics are starting to pay attention and every network has been providing a daily dose of toxic material. The interview with Jimmy Carter was just another way to add fuel to the fire. Unfortunately, the fight over Obama is tearing us apart. The first black president is historic and extremely important to the black community and to America; however, when people are so concerned about supporting a man simply because he is THE first black president and will say anything to distract from the real issues makes me wonder if America was ready. I think we are going backwards and as more people begin to take sides, there will be more hatred and frustration towards one another. Will anyone be able to criticize the President without being accused of being a racist? Can we find common ground when individuals can interpret a comment in two dramatically different ways? When one source hears "You Lie" and another hears "You lie, boy"? Can we remain "united" when one part of the country disagrees with the direction, policies and character of those whom Obama surrounds himself with, yet another part of the country is proud of Obama and views him as a hero, role model and a dream that has finally come true. It's almost like a mother who thinks her child can do no wrong. Have you ever tried to convince a mother that her baby is ugly? Not in her eyes! For some people in this country, Obama will always be an angel.
