When some Americans believe the current president is a communist cult leader trying to brainwash the nations schoolchildren, and other Americans want the last president to be dragged off his ranch in handcuffs, it is time to reassess the state of our union. So may I make a modest proposal. There is a way to end the bitter bickering over health care, affirmative action, abortion, religion in the public square, taxation, torture, and the proper role of government. It is called secession. Yes, I know: Splitting the U.S. into two nations is a bit extreme. But extremism in the defense of America is no vice. And since were already segregating ourselves by what we watch, listen, and read, why not go all the way?
Think of the possibilities. In a new nation fashioned out of the current red states-call it, for the sake of argument, Limbaughland-the federal tax rate would be cut to 10%, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security would be abolished, abortion would be illegal, gays would be closeted again, and Christianity would be the official state religion. Anyone could buy any kind of gun, no questions asked. In the current blue states, which we will call ObamaNation, the federal tax rate would top out at 90%; all employers would institute quota systems for minorities, women and less-abled persons; and youd get your health care form a single-payer system like Canadas. Fast food and guns would be banned, while gay marriage and marijuana would be legal. Voila! No more rancor, leaving only one remaining problem: What would we all feel so aggrieved about?

Who gets to draw the new map?
Maybe we can be guided by the county-by-county election map?
“Perhaps Abraham Lincoln made a mistake.”
Ya think?
Yes, except as I recall they forgot to include Alberta and Cuba.
And the Red states laugh as the Blue States starve.
William Falk is defining America by 2 extremes?
Conservatives most generally don’t care if gays are in the closet or not, we just don’t think they should be celebrated.
I don’t think most Conservatives would abolish Social Security or Medicare. We’ve tried to reform Social Security and were stopped.
No criminals would receive guns in ‘Limbaughland’, this is a ridiculous assertion.
He makes a point about our nation being split. I don’t think it’s divided along the extremes he suggests. It’s just that everyone is so dug in and unyielding, but for our side, WE HAVE TO BE.
But would Peaceful Secession be allowed? I think we would only get war.
Let’s start with Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Kansas... I think Nebraska and the Dakotas would probably throw in as well. Wyoming and Montana seem like no brainers as does most of the south. From there... We have much ground to hold between the coasts. The only state I see here that could be ‘self-sustaining’ is Texas, correct me if I’m wrong...
If we reclaimed the 10th ammendment, a lot of this would go away.
Take away the power of the feds to dictate beyond what the constitution allows. Let the “red” states do what they do, and the blue states do what they do, and we’ll have the real diversity of 50 similar but different experiments in governance. If Californians want to be the vanguard and don’t mind being bankrupt half the time, let them. If Nevada wants to be Nevada, let them. If you’re hopelessly outnumbered in your state, but you like what they are doing in Indiana, then you know what to do.
In other words, not secession, but let each state pursue its vision within the constitution. We have to recalibrate the balance between the feds and the states.
The conservatives get the West. We gotta get the West.
As a conservative libertarian who lives in, and loves his adopted red state life, I would find that place unlivable. Would you like to make my home unlivable?
OK, that’s what I should have wrote..
Spot on, spot on.
Maybe after the Big One makes a new coastline
“Conservatives most generally dont care if gays are in the closet or not, we just dont think they should be celebrated.”
And I wouldn’t make Christianity the state religion. (And I’m a Christian).
Whoa, dude...I've been reading a new book about that very topic:
We do not give them the entire coastline obviously if we split up.
I just downloaded a county by county election map. I’m going to redraw it as 2 nations.
bttt
this is what the Global-marxist want. If they split The Republic (or what is left of it), American loses its influence and is weakened ... and might be an easier target for foreign enemies.
No, when the left (New York, Massachusetts, Illinois and California) realize that their days of dominance are over, we will NOT let them secede.
OBAMA IS THE END. He gets one more supreme court nominee to replace Stevens and that is the last leftie to ever get on that Court.
