SNIPPET: "How Did the Posting of the Photos Actually Play Out?
1. At some point in July 2009, International Red Cross delegates photographed Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his nephew, Ammar al-Baluchi. These photos were taken as part of a service that the ICRC has provided to at least the 107 detainees at Guantanamo who opted in. The service includes provide their families with photographed evidence that the detainee is alive and not being mistreated.
2. Specifically, each detainee selects their two favorite poses and print copies of those photographs along with a note from the ICRC are transmitted by the ICRC to the family/families of these related individuals.
3. In this case, the photographs were scanned by some party, most likely after receiving them from the family, and posted to a jihadist forum. The Pentagon has confirmed that they do not monitor or particularly care what the families decide to do with these photographs.
(Editorial Comment: not caring about what happens with photos is probably ok with regard to most detainees, but seriously, this is KSM this is now a strategic level problem for the US, not just a tactical one)"
SNIPPET: "The posting was uploaded on 2 September to the English-language Ansar al-Jihad Network forum by Ansar 007″ (note the Bond allusion and/or the reference to the infamous Irhabi007′). The posting claimed to have Exclusive HQ Images of both men."
SNIPPET: "10. Also at some point on 3 September, Samir Khan (or someone with admin access) posted both photos of KSM but none of Ammar on his English-language jihadist blog, Ignored Puzzle Pieces of Knowledge."
SNIPPET: "For those of you who havent spent a lot of time on KSM, think somewhere between Hannibal Lecter, Adolf Eichmann and Daniel Plainview. He is an ego-maniacal, fiercely entrepreneurial, deviously minded psychopath who is consumately rational, in his own delusional and banal way. Hes a murderous thug. And a master showman. Hes a workaholic and spottedly insightful. Interpersonally, he seems generally affable with a hint of ready-to-snap-into-crazy-fascist-monster. And, what matters most he wants to prove a point.
SNIPPET: "I also predict that the photo they will use in their propaganda will be one of these GTMO pics. In my opinion, the photo has done more than just relieve jihadists that KSM is ok. It has opened Pandoras box and potentially started a new era in AQ propaganda.
Why Did this Not Break Sooner? I have no idea. These pics were out on the major jihadist forums for at least 6 days before I posted them here. Was it that the private jihadi internet monitoring groups, who charge the US government subscriptions to catch stuff like this, were on vacation for Labor Day? Was it that there wasnt a clear understanding about the gravity of these photos appearing in this way at this time of the year? I dont know. But Im glad Leah passed it and Im glad we released it.
Going into the 8th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Americans and the world need to know that this fight is not over. They need to know that this photo, the first ever of KSM in captivity, has gone viral on al-Qaidas side but was totally missed on ours. They need to know that a hateful, blood-thirsty hive of al-Qaida fanatics is out there, waiting and plotting."

“UPDATE 2: ONE MORE KSM GTMO PHOTO”
SNIPPET: “Ok, so this is a second shot (Cindy, thanks for the link) from the same series. But, heres the mystery. This was one was posted by Samir Khan on his site on 3 September. He did not post any of the Ammar photos (featured below), leading me to believe that he did not have access to them, otherwise he wouldve posted them, or doesnt care about him, which wouldnt make much sense.
But none of the other Arabic forums ran this picture, which they wouldve had they of had access to it. So, it seems like there were two separate/compartmented movements of these photos. These two pics of KSM on 3 September to Samir Khan (below) and the other three on 4 September to m3ark and Ana al-Muslm. From there, they went viral to Al-Faloja, Al-Jazeera Talk, and the others. So, why does Samir have access to this particular photos and not the other? How did he get it a day before the others? And why did this sit from 3/4 September until this blog unveiled them on 8 September before they were discussed on our side?”

“(EXCLUSIVE) First HVD Pics: KSM and Ammar”
SNIPPET: “We mention for example the Mujahid hero Khalid Shaykh Muhammad. The Ummah doesnt appreciate the importance of this man, nor the services which he rendered to Allahs religion. And how sorry we were that this brother fell into the hands of the Americans, but Allah- Exalted is He- wanted something, and there is no doubt that what Allah chose for him and the Mujahideen will be better for them.

Their not mentioning the architect of 9/11, one of the most ruthless terrorists of the past century and a hugely popular figure among the jihadists with whom he worked and taught, may be because theres a zero-sum game going on here. Praising KSM detracts from the prestige of Bin Ladin and Ayman al-Zawahiri. From their perspective, KSM is a reminder that 9/11 was his op, not UBLs. Thats obviously a big no bueno.
Why would U.S. allow/enable such photo propaganda--when it would be better to stress how KSM sang like a little girl from a few play dates with Mr. Waterboard.
We have now ali-Hussein Boy-King of Kenya, Twelfth Imam of Chicago, "I will stand with them", "my Muslim faith", Mr. 57 States, doing the astroturfing for AQ.
KSM is the puke who personally cut off Daniel Pearl's head. Damn straight Hannibal Lekter.
Sick to death of the CIA bashing. Another hijack this 911--by the poseur-president from Mombasa.

Thanks for posting this
While Jarret Brachman may not be some to read everyday it pays to check his site out regularly
BTW people might wnt to look at Global Jihadism: Theory and Practice
Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Global-Jihadism-Practice-Political-Violence/dp/0415452422/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252858024&sr=1-1
(snip)
The first half of the book explores the ideas upon which groups such as Al Qaeda are built, including the concepts of Jihad, al-Wala wal-Bara, Takfir and Tawhid. Jarret Brachman exposes a genre of Jihadist strategic scholarship that has been virtually ignored in the West and helps to situate it within the broader Salafist religious movement. The second half explores the thinking and activities of Al Qaedas propaganda machine, explaining its intricacies and idiosyncrasies. It includes case studies on the rise and fall of global Jihadist terrorism in Saudi Arabia post-9/11, and highlights the explosive results of bringing theory to bear on practice in the United Kingdom over the past twenty years. The book concludes by providing innovative strategies for combating the global Jihadist ideology.
You’re welcome.
The book should be an eye opener especially to those who don’t follow the global jihad.
