If you are serious about advocating education, are pop stars and athletes really the way to do it? Athletes, if they are educated at all, major in “jock majors” like “family science” and “binge drinking studies”, and singers usually not that educated at all.

Of course, the *successful* ones don’t need to be, but it’s just lying to kids to imply that they can get a pop star or famous athlete by getting an education. Why not hold up mathematicians, scientists, engineers, economists, the real thinkers and doers, if you want to sell education?

David Blackwell was a famous mathematician. He was black. Thomas Sowell is a famous economist. He’s black. Mark Dean was an important computer engineer. He’s black. Do they even tell black kids about these people? No, just illiterate, criminal rap stars and athletes, and occasionally the ridiculously-overrated George Washington Carver.
