Seriously, Conservatives, Your Kids Will Survive Hearing Obama Give a Speech

The president is addressing kids. Big deal. I can remember Gerald Ford asking kids to tell their parents to turn off the lights when we left a room because we all needed to conserve energy or something. We were all supposed to write letters to the president telling him what we were going to do about this. I wrote one. Got a reply, even! It wasn’t from Ford himself, but from some dunderhead who worked for him. Said dunderhead probably sent the same letter to millions of kids.

It took me years to figure that out, though. I thought the guy sat down and wrote this letter especially to me. I was pretty pumped. Somehow it didn’t prevent me from deciding, years later, that Ford was a pretty mediocre president – even though you’re not supposed to think that where I live.

When my local BOE sees that they won’t get paid for my kid’s butt in the seat, they won’t pull this again. Obami has to realize that the American people are finally waking up when 1/3 of the kids are kept home as he is supposed to address them.

Education is local, not Federal.

Bill Clinton annouced his run for President the next day.

A couple of weeks prior GHW Bush had given his famous “New World Order” speech where he waxed eloquent about how the gerat victory of Desert Storm by means of a grand international coalition would mean that the world was ready for a strengthened UN and a world time of great peace under the authority of the UN.

In other words, pride in his great victory went to GHW Bush’s head and he acted upon that overflowing pride — no man is immune!

But Hubris met Nemesis.

We know who lost the next Presidential election and sadly who won. Oct 1st and then Oct 2nd.

We know what happened to GWHB’s poll numbers in the
interim.

We know, sadly and tragically, how ineffective and even rotten the UN is, and was then, but has gotten worse since.

Why did GHWB support the UN so? Was it to rebuke Israel? I think so. That was unwise. GHWB surely knew well just how anti-Israel the UN was.

We know that the Great Period of Peace GHWB thought he had brought about, and so could turn his effort to the drug war — was NO PEACE.

Our enemies arose in Somalia, and after he began the Nemesis to GHWB’s Hubris, Clinton ran us out of Somalia like cowards. Osama watched and decided we were vulnerable.

I say that 10-1-1991 speech set in motion a chain of events that led to the tragic day of 9-11-2001.

I can remember Gerald Ford asking kids to tell their parents to turn off the lights when we left a room because we all needed to conserve energy or something.

Did the Ford administration instruct your teacher to display classroom charts and graphs that continually monitor your classmates' progress towards achieving their goals of "helping the president"?

Well...DID IT DAN?

It crosses the line when you have administration officials "coaching" teachers on how to prepare our kiddies before, during, and continually after the speech. It smacks of propaganda and follow-up propaganda management.

The micromanagement of this issue by administration officials betrays it as much more than a simple public service announcement or motivational speech.

There is no mention of a Department of Education lesson plan to accompany this televised speech. No mention of the teachers engaging their students in “activities” following this speech.

No comparison here.

A 45 minutes discussion followed the speech, this does not come anywhere close to what Obama is asking.

Fighting drug abuse, saving energy are all items that should be talked about, asking what you can do for the president is not

What in the world are you talking about???

I was in public school for the ENTIRE Reagan administration. *NOTHING* like this *EVER* happened. I would remember very clearly if it did, because I loved Ronald Reagan.

The only time my schools ever allowed Ronald Reagan in, was one time, to allow us to see the inauguration when he took over from the hapless Jimmy Carter. We never got to see the 1985 inauguration or anything else by Ronald Reagan.

How would you feel about your children watching an event in School where Obama defended Democratic Policies and laws?

It did happen. Maybe your school didn’t broadcast it.

Start googling. Even some of the conservatives are mentioning the Reagan and Bush speeches.

Yes, and maybe the schools shouldn’t broadcast Obama either.

The problem isn’t the speech; it’s the Obama-loving “curricular” festivities that are bound to surround the speech.

P.S. I wonder what would happen if I called the White House and just asked to speak with either of Obama’s daughers ?

You'd likely get to talk to a polite, but decidedly unfriendly Secret Service agent, and then your day would go downhill rapidly from there. :-)

I wonder what would happen if I asked the schools if I could sit in on the speech, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, the after-class discussion that the teachers will have.

95% of the kids will be snoozing for BO...the teacher reinforcement is where the damage will be done.

They’ll lose funding for my kid for that day

If enough people do this, it will send a message. Hit 'em in the pocketbook!

Do you honestly think Obama would actually defend American policies?

I said DEMOCRATIC POLICIES.

reagan defended, according to reports, things like gun laws and line item vetos.

If you are the opposing side, I think what Reagan did was at least as worse..because it was POLITICAL.

Bush was just trying to get people off of drugs.

Obama is trying to further education. The lesson part of this deal is disturbing..but come on...Republicans were outraged before they even knew about the lesson plan.

It is because they are terrified of the Hitler Youth Brigade - with good reason.

From what I hear it’s the suggested projects and assigned reading the lib teachers were told to use to bolster the Ones message that are the real danger.

So, no thanks, tards, if you hadn’t aborted your own kids, you wouldn’t need ours.
