Obama and Palin: A Year Later
Sept 1, 2009 | techno

Posted on 09/01/2009 6:36:54 PM PDT by techno

Over the past year, either you have been in constant hiberation or the most dismissive human being alive not to realize that Barack Obama and Sarah Palin have been the two most pre-eminent political figures in America.

Despite the presumptuous attempt by the MSM to suppress Obama's true background and the MSM's desire to highlight and mock Palin's inconsequential political beginnings, in reality both politicians rose to prominence from relative obscurity and inauspicious beginnings, Obama from a sketchy background as a community organizer and state senator and Palin through the ranks as councilman, mayor, head of the Oil and Gas Commission and finally governor of a remote state Alaska that most Americans have never visited.

Even 15 years ago there would have been little chance that either person could have ascended to the heights that they have so far.

As to Obama he would have been disqualified from running for the presidency not because of his race but his puny national experience and resume. Obama hadn't hardly settled in to his Senate seat in 2005 when he set in motion his presidential bid only a few months later.

As for Palin she was not expected to have been chosen as a VP not only now but ever. First she is a woman, second she was only 44 when chosen, third her state could only bring 3 electoral votes to Mccain with Alaska being solid Republican, and finally and not the least most members of the rank and file and even some prominent members of the GOP had never heard of her.

And no first-time losing VP has ever gone on in either party (since 1854)and captured the nomination for president the next time around.

Both stories are remarkable and they both represent the modern 21st c on both sides of the coin, but both are fully representative of and engaged in high speed communications, the Internet, and blackberries.

Obama represents the America who no longer judges America by the color of one's skin, the hip, American Idol-Survivor America, Narcissistic secular humanist Americans who believe that America needs to be "transformed" and that America ahould become more in tune with the rest of the world with a greater bureaucratic government presence, a socialistic attitude and agenda of governance, and less war-like.

Palin is actually a throwback. She easily could have grown up in 1789, 1889, 1929 or 1989. She represents a rarity in this modern age of politics, a person who doesn't care about poll numbers or what the critics say about her (unlike her running mate)and is willing to be bold and always on the attack with a "take no prisoners attitude". Palin represents the finest traditions of American conservatism, unbridled freedom, rugged individualism, the American Constitution and the rule of law and I also believe she exemplies what made America great: determination, courage, the pursuit of happiness and above all faith, faith in oneself, faith in one's neighbor and faith in one's country to aspire to greatness. Sarah Palin perfectly embodies what Obama wants to exorcise from the American ethos forever. Sarah Palin wants to reclaim America's birthright for its citizens and wants America to be exceptional again.

Over the next 2-3 years these polar visions of America are bound to vehemently clash. Obama has a distinct advantage because he is the incumbent, and enjoys the unmitigated support of the nutroots, the entertainment industry and the MSM. But by the same token Palin has the advantage of the electorate being predominantly right-of-center than anything else, the support of most of right-wing talk radio and the potential of increasing poll numbers as she LEGITIMIZES herself over the next 2 years while in the "wilderness" writing her book, publishing op-eds, posting Facebook entries, giving speeches, appearing on radio and in TV interviews and orchestrating huge GOP gains in the 2010 midterms.

And by the way for those who think that Sarah Palin has been "demonized", "marginalized" or permanently damaged goods I bring your attention to her "death panels" comment that still resonates three weeks later and threatens to torpedo the 'public option' and the fact that she has now before her over 1000 invitations to speak. Contrary to the musings of F. Scott Fitzgerald, there are indeed second acts for some Americans.

If Sarah Palin gains the GOP nomination I can promise you this: the 2012 campaign will be a heavyweight fight to the finish, a battle royal; Obama will have all he can handle from Palin. A crooked referee or panel (ACORN/state Dem state electoral hacks)may give a narrow or split decision to Obama, I cannot deny the possibility, but if it is a fair fight without any significant crooked voting to speak of Sarah does have a chance to prevail. Sarah will never give up. It will be close. Get the popcorn out. You'll be in for a long, long night on November 6, 2012. The future of America will be decided.
