A year ago, yesterday, I was a Democrat shopping for OBAMA 2008 bumper stickers.
A year ago, today, I was a woman confused. John McCain had just announced his running mate…and, suddenly the choice of simply “voting with the Party” was slipping through my hands.
Team Sarah here’s my Sarah Palin Day story. I’d like to show you what August 29th meant for me. Hang onto your hats, folks…because this is a crazy one…but I have tried to express it as earnestly as I can:
May God forgive me for the things I have done and left undone, because my whole life has been a wandering, a rambling meander…from one philosophical point to another, from one religious perspective to another, from one Life’s dream to another.
Restless, searching…this little American woman’s life has been a spent as a confused gypsy of contemplation. And oh, my head does ache from all the questions I have asked…all the answers I have sought.
But would you know it from my outward appearance? Forty one year old housewife, mother, Christian woman, P.T.A volunteer, Sunday School teacher. Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, pacifist, fighter, right wing, left wing, conservative, liberal…oh, I have dabbled in nearly everything. Trying them on for size, casting them aside and moving onto the next.
Yes, I am emotional. Squirming within, is a spiritually turbulent soul, and, at the heart of my deepest convictions is an inability to steer myself away from that which dwells in my heart. You see, my head takes a back seat, every time.
So be forewarned, tonight, I write these words not as an astute assessment of social issues, public policy, international turns of fortune, or politics. Tonight, I write about Sarah.
Let me say this, and let me make it clear. I have studied Sarah, scrutinized her record with a fine tooth comb and, heartily, I have come to appreciate her accomplishments. With high esteem I regard her leadership and her integrity and her fortitude and her grace. But, honestly, folks, the “thing” about Sarah that hooked me…that secured me as a Palin Loyalist, was not rooted in an intellectual response to her skills as leader. Rather, it was as a….soul reaction.
Soul Reaction? Yes, yes…I know you are grinning…but, good golly, people…was I the only who felt like Sarah was an old friend? Someone I’d grown up? Someone with whom I giggled, sticky faced from melting popsicles…someone that perhaps I had sat next to for twelve years on sweaty vinyl seat in a school bus every morning, every afternoon?
Instant was that connection with her.
Sarah has a spirit, it seems, that I was meant to know.
And no, I will not concern myself over the sentimental nature of this revelation, but something shifted into place with Sarah. A light was turned on. A neural pathway was connected. A synapses was electrified.
God grabbed me by the skull, placed my nose to the ground and whispered, PRAY. PRAY, PRAY FOR THIS WOMAN.
And I prayed. Bended knee, tear streaked face, I prayed and paced and prayed and paced…through the interviews and the debate and the rallies and the “gotchas” and the “goin’ rogue” and polls and the trolls and the skimpy towel and the decapitated fowl (okay, that was post-election, but it rhymed and I couldn‘t resist), the legs and the skirts and the shoes, the geography and pornography and the Mahers and the Behars…and the Troopergate and the Clothing Gate and the Letterman leering and the Olbermann sneering and the hanging effigies and the media savagery.
I saw demons and angels and serpents and seraphs.
Oh yes, I prayed to God about this woman…this new sister… that He would rally the Angels to her defense. That He would deliver her from the Evil that slithered from every shadow. That He would give her humility through the adulation… and wisdom, peace…and that in the midst of the worst of it, when it all seemed to crash at her feet, that He would grant her just one blessing, one thing to bring a smile to her sweet face…something precious, to hold in her fatigued, trembling little warrior hands. I hope that he did.
Your Will be done on Earth as in Heaven, God. And God’s Will was done.
I have to believe that it was and hold that Truth in my own little trembling hands. Oh, but Sarah…you do not go through those battles alone.
Still I pray.
I pray that God has his hand upon her head as well. That wisdom will be conveyed, and that, with mud on his thumbs, he will rub that earth salve upon her closed eyes and they will open with new vision and discernment. I pray that His hands cover her own as she moves her pen across her notepad and she types upon her computers. I pray that the palm of his hands, scoop her by the elbows and raise her up so that he can lead her through those doors whose rooms are still not yet illuminated.
What awaits Sarah? What awaits any of us? It is not for our little earth-blind hearts to know.
But…His Will will be done and that will have to enough for us, but I can tell you this: I am going to pray for Sarah.
There is no uncertainty, no wandering, no whimsical musings about that. She is precious cargo and God is sending her somewhere, and I have been called to pray for her. Thousands have been called to pray for her and her journey will be padded by our generous intercessions.
Sarah Palin…we will do everything we can to get you there safely.
Governor Palin saved McCain from being buried in a landslide.
This is very, very weird. I get more than just a whiff of psyops from this one.
And I DON’T like the subliminal message.
Oookay then.
I love Sarah, too, but this smells a bit like idol worship.
Yeah, I am Sarah’s #1 supporter, but even this makes me feel a little bit icky. I don’t worship the ground she walks on. I love her, but this kind of stuff is for Obama supporters who look to him like a God. Sarah definitely saved McCain’s ass. The ONLY reason why I voted for McCain was because of Sarah Palin. I voted for her then, and I will gladly vote for her again if she decides to run

If you’re truly a friend of Sarah Palin, you’d pray more quietly.
Ditz will change her mind again I bet.

Stable, consistent people are desperately needed in this unstable day.

I will say this though——there is NO ONE on the current political landscape that reminds me of Ronald Reagan/Margaret Thatcherother than Sarah Palin. No, Sarah is not a god(dess) but she just might be another Reagan-Thatcher.

Wow, I’m seeing a lot of negative responses to what to me is simply a passionate response to Sarah. One that I heartily agree with. I don’t have the life experience expressed here of hopping around in different things (ie republican, democrat, etc). I have pretty much always been a conservative Christian woman. But my reaction was similar. From the moment McCain introduced Sarah Palin as his running mate, and Sarah gave her short speech telling us who she was and what she believed - I was hooked! I knew more about her & her forthright honesty in that first 5 minutes than I knew after hours of listening to all the other candidates, including McCain. And yes, I did and will continue to pray for Sarah Palin and her family. Go Sarah!
... let me tell you my story as briefly as I can.
Back when Hillary looked like the front runner, I stated loudly and publicly on the forums I inhabit that I would stay home rather than vote for McCain ( who I dubbed Capn' Queeg ) or any of those other tired, old Republican retreads.
Then Obama came along, and he sounded- at first-- not alarming.
But when I saw the eerie, quasi- religious fanaticism of his supporters, I started getting worried- they were kooks.
So, I decided to hold my nose and vote for The Capn' regardless, but I did not like it a bit-- it felt like BobDole! BobDole! All over again.
Now Miss Emily and I have been married almost 25 years, and in all that time I have never been able to get her to vote, protest, or show any interest in politics- she was a Goldwater Girl ( the real thing, not the phony Hillary type ) who turned into a Democrat after college at a liberal arts school, and becoming a union member.
When Sarah was introduced, she actually stood up, and yelled “I want to vote for that woman!” ( And for what little it's worth, I'd been aware of Sarah for some time, and hoped against hope she'd get the VP nomination )
And she campaigned tirelessly for her, and that, err, the white-haired guy...
And threw up all night after it became apparent that the Kenyan/Indonesian/Whateverian Usurper had it in the bag.
I don't know if it's enough to win an election, but there is a base of people like my wife- atypical, drawn to a new face with basically good ideas, who isn't part of that ghastly beltway Good Old Boy network of power-happy thieves.

That is the true attraction whether people realise it or not - an honest Politician - I just hope she can avoid being swallowed up by the Rep machine and remains so!
