An Even Greater Depression?

While we aren't contrarian for the sake of being contrary, more often than not that is the position in which we find ourselves. Today, with the media falling all over itself to paint a rosy outlook for the economy while simultaneously voicing encouragement to the new administration in its remake of the nation in previously unimaginable ways, it's hard not to question our conviction that the worst is yet to come.

Could the economy really recover this quickly from the traumatic trifecta of a record real estate bubble, leviathan levels of debt, and a global credit collapse? We don't see it as remotely possible, but yet... but yet... there for everyone to see are countless happy headlines and breathless exhortations that the worst is behind us.

So, is it Green Shoots or Greater Depression?

Getting the answer right is critical, because from it flow serious consequences to each of us. And not just in our investment portfolios but in how we organize our lives.

We all know that the depresion was called off in 1929-1931 as the experts told everyone that the worst was over, that the stock market had recovered. We also know that the Great Depression was largely 1932 forward, just after those experts declared it was over.

After OBAMA'S campaign,the MSM support and the contentions his neo Marxist market as opposed to free market would save the world, he must continue to lie. If he were to tell the truth, the people would march to the Count’s castle, not only in DC but the world, carrying torches to destroy the monster who has or will destroy their lives.

I love the fact the GWB, no great leader in the last 2 years of his administration, managed to dump $750B on TARP etc. OBAMA, brilliant intellectual that he is, saw the program was not working and double downed!!!!

What the press hailed as the demise of the GOP will be the demise of the NDP. It's unbridled extremes have caused revulsion in the American people. I think the messiah will be out after 4 years with a GOP House beginning next year, followed by a GOP Senate, especially after Teddy croaks and the infighting in the NDP tears it apart with Kennedy, Obama and Clinton factions going at it bare knuckles.

Precisely. Too many bad loans that are in limbo on banks’ balance sheets for there to be any real recovery. All we are seeing now is the temporary bottom.
