Never thought I would see such a thread on FR. It is true that most Gay bars in larger cities were run by the mafia, who also, btw, ran many of the illegal abortion clinics in New York at the time.

There were gay bars in Germany in the 30’s. Lesbian photo’s (women dressed as men) were popular items at the time. Germany got deep into man worship.
