Just so were all on the same page, Abu Yahya al-Libi has an older brother. His name is `Abd al-Wahhab Qayid (Abu Idris).
Remember, Abu Yahya al-Libis name is Hasan Qaid (transliterated differently in popular media).
What makes this story significant, is that Abu Idris is one of the imprisoned senior leaders of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) who recently renounced armed violence.
And theres the rub. The guy poised to take over al-Qaida has an older brother who is a senior member of the group that Abu Yahya used to be a member of who is now renouncing violence.
If the Libyans stay out of the way and just let Abu Idris speak his mind and go after his younger brother, this could rank on par with Sayyid Imams revisions.

“LIFGs Ideological Revisions Imminent’
SNIPPET: “T-minus 24 hours until LIFGs ideological revisions get published in serialized format. They will be published here: http://www.oealibya.com/ As I understand, its 421 pages and divided into 9 Sections, but dont quote me on that. Either way, its supposed to be a rigorously researched tex.
Ill be commenting on them as they come out. Remember, Abu Yahya al-Libis older brother, Abu Idris, is among the LIFG senior leadership signing their names to these revisions. I really hope the Libyans let Abu Idris get after his younger brother.
The impending publication of this document means that a firestorm is about to follow.”

“Libyan Jihad Revisions”
Thomas Hegghammer
“September 8th, 2009 | Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, Retractions, propaganda”
SNIPPET: “The text in itself is probably not a landmark work of Islamic jurisprudence, but it is important because it adds to what may now be called a corpus of treatises by former militants challenging al-Qaida on theological grounds. The trend started with al-Gamaa al-Islamiya in Egypt, continued with Dr Fadl and now its the LIFGs turn. Credible MB figures like Yusuf al-Qaradawi have also chipped in. Of course, no one text is going to change the world, but put together, these treatises will constrain al-Qaidas recruitment pool somewhat. The Libyan text has yet to make a big splash on the forums, though it is talked about. It will be very interesting to see if and how the AQ leadership will respond to the latest salvo.”

“Why the LIFGs Revisions are Falling on Our Deaf Ears”
SNIPPET: “Todays blog is a plea to my readers who are in positions to influence counterterrorism policy with regard to al-Qaida. For once, the Libyans are doing something right and everyone else is standing around staring at their shoes. In short, this is the most significant development in the war on terror this year and, well, nobody knows and if they know they dont seem to care. Not only does it matter that the senior leaders of an organization formerly in bed with al-Qaida are now renouncing al-Qaida, but the biggest story here is this:
ABU YAHYA AL-LIBIS OLDER BROTHER, ABU IDRIS, IS AMONG THE SIGNATORIES ON THE LIFGS REVISIONS. IN OTHER WORDS, THERE IS AN OLDER BROTHER SCOLDS YOUNGER BROTHER STORY HERE THAT IS BEING TOTALLY MISSED. THIS ISNT INFO-OPS ITS REAL LIFE.
Ill stop with the all-caps now, but I cant believe that this story isnt at the forefront of everybodys mind. I explain why I think this is the case below. First, the build-up.
The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) has been publishing its revisions in serialized format in the Libyan press over the past two weeks. Few have cared. Camille Tawil saw it coming and blogged it. Muhammad Shafey wrote a great article on it. Thomas blogged it as the revisions got under way. Vahid followed up with the first substantive analysis of the first three chapters. Ive been posting some links to the raw Arabic.
The LIFGs change of heart is the outcome of a multi-year negotiation between the LIFGs senior leadership, leading lights in public Islamism, and the Qaddafi government.
For those of you who dont know, the LIFG has been a long-standing (at least since the early 1990s) partner/associated group with al-Qaida. Many of its Libyan members had fought in Afghanistan during the 1980s side-by-side current members of al-Qaida. After the establishment of the LIFG, the organization remained an ideological and operational partner with al-Qaida. Some of the Libyans playing with al-Qaida whose names you might recognize include Abu Faraj al-Libi, Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi, Abu Anas al-Libi, Abu Laith al-Libi and Abu Yahya al-Libi, among others.”

RECONSIDERING REVISIONS
Politics & Society | Author: Marisa Urgo
SNIPPET: “I finally got around to reading Brown and Brachman’s insights into Libyan Islamic Fighting Group’s (LIFG) recent publication of “revisions” to their takfir-centered Salafist-Jihadism (SJ). For the few bloggers and analysts who have reported on LIFG’s revisions, it appears that they are substantial, and have the potential for challenging AQ’s own theology. (For more information on LIFG’s long history with AQ, check out Brachman’s post above) That said, I’m growing far less sanguine about the potential in this current revisionist movement.
If you’re new to this phenomenon, revisions are Salafist-Jihadists’ attempts to revise the most violent aspects of their movement.”
SNIPPET: “Revisions work to blunt the edge, but the edge remains, and all the movement needs is another “Blind Sheikh” or Abu Yahya al-Libi to sharpen it again. This time armed with the rhetoric needed to counter past revisionist arguments. The really big problem for the West comes in the possibility of that “Blind Sheikh” originating in a Western country, armed with a Western demeanor, reshaping SJ with western idioms. That possibility is seen in the radicalized communities in the UK, and is at work in the U.S. efforts of Samir Khan and his followers.
I’m not arguing against revisions. If a senior member of the movement realizes the error of his ways and (more or less) repents then far be from me to complain. After all, souls are at stake. But I think we have to approach it with more analytical caution. SJ is religious doctrine, not political ideology, and as long as there are believers, the movement (and the threat) will persist.”

On Twitter I have “tweeted” regarding the general subject of libya and jihadis as the articles/web forum discussions become available:

One of the tweets I posted today included a link to this article:
“Rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links”
“Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.”

The other day I tweeted about A-Libi:
