It appears that some people are still not convinced that the 44th president of the United States legitimately assumed the office. What exactly is the issue?
With all the problems still plaguing the country – health care, the economy, unemployment – why are so many people intent on keeping the supposed controversy of the citizenship of the President of the United States in the forefront?
The Birthers
“The birthers” as they’ve come to be known, are a group of activists, theorist and attorneys dead set on proving that this particular president, under constitutional grounds, should not be in office (which is in itself a bit ironic being that the president was a Constitutional professor). Using a nationally refuted interpretation of the Constitution, the fringe group claims that what they are arguing is that Obama is only a “citizen” of the United States and not a “naturally born citizen” (much the way countless immigrants are now citizens of the U.S., but were born elsewhere in the world).
The birthers’ main argument is that Obama’s father was not a citizen of the United States - Barack Obama Sr. was a Kenyan national - and that this makes the president simply a “citizen” and not a “naturally born citizen”, even though since August 21, 1959, any person’s born in Hawaii would be recognized as being a naturally born citizen as per article II and the 14th amendment of the Constitution. Major research isn’t needed to prove this point. Just a little reading. Yet, the controversy continues.
Hawaii Vouches for the Authenticity of Obama's Birth Certificate
Earlier this week, state officials of Hawaii again saw themselves forced to confirm that Barack Obama is in fact a natural-born citizen of the United States. But this will likely do little to squelch the fringe groups’ fervor. It didn’t do anything to quiet them in October 2008, the first time Hawaii’s health director and other Hawaiian government officials issued a statement saying that they had personally seen the president’s birth certificate.
Birthers Find a Receptive Audience
In a just released survey conducted by Daily Kos Research 2000, 77% of the country believes Obama was born in the United States; 11% believe he was not, and 12% weren’t sure.
Broken down by regions, 93% of those in the Northeast; 90% of those in the Midwest; and 89% of those in the West believe Obama to be a U.S. citizen. The glaring difference comes in those surveyed in the South of whom only 47% believe Obama is an American - 53% believe that either he is not an American or are unsure of his citizenship.
Republicans are Silent or Deliberately Hazy on the Question of Birth
Unfortunately, many Republicans are not speaking out against the birthers extreme group. Conservative commentators and even some politicians are fanning further doubt by what they say publicly; both overtly and subtly.
When asked whether or not he believed that Barack Obama was an American citizen, Republican Representative from Missouri, Roy Blunt replied, “I don’t know why the president can’t produce a birth certificate”. The fact is, the State Department demands a certified birth certificate in order to issue a passport. Obama has had a passport since childhood. His documentation was seen long before Obama ever dreamed of a political life.
Some in the Republican Party are Fed Up with the Birthers' Hype
Luckily, not all republicans are blinded by the side-show issue that the question of the president’s birthplace has become. Appearing on “Hardball with Chris Matthews”, Republican strategist Todd Harris said today of the Obama birth issue, “I think this whole issue is ridiculous… I think the people that are pushing this issue are not a bit nuts, but a lot nuts”.
The Burden of Proof Has Been Met
Regardless of political affiliation, whether republican, democrat or independent, the truth behind the president’s citizenship is an easily proven one. Barack Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States of America. Documents have been brought forward. Birth announcements in old newspapers have been retrieved. Sworn statements have been taken. Congress confirmed him. Chief Justice Roberts swore him in. Like the man or not, he is an American and he is our president. Perhaps the birthers’ energies would be better served opposing Obama on actual issues instead of beating dead horses.

I dont think we should assume that he doesnt have the long form in his possession. IIRC in one of his books he mentions finding his birth cert during his teen years.

Actually, I think these stories are great.
The more stories they write like this,the more people are going to wonder just what all the fuss is about and why Obama doesn’t just release the damn thing.
Then, throw in the amount of money he is paying (or allowing someone else to pay) to fight legal efforts to require him to release it, and they get more curious.
It’s simple human nature to want what you can’t have. To see what is secret.
The truth will out eventually. That much I am sure of.

Well, since the current CoLB forms didn’t come into existence until 2001, what he claims to have seen (or Billy Ayers claims for him) would not be what he posted through Cacacheck.org.

This statement wraps in so many points of ignorance, stupidity and error that is is hard to begin a coherent comment.
First, the date of Statehood has NOTHING to do with it. Hawaii was sovereign territory of the United States BEFORE statehood. Any territorial argument that would hold after statehood would hold just as well before, back to the date of annexation. It's jsut another in a long list of red herrings.
There is no such constitutional term as "naturally born" citizen. The use of such a term is embarassingly ignorant for someone purporting to write with authority. If this writer doesn't even know the term for what she is writing about, how much faith can we put in the rest of her swill?
The 14th Amendment does not deal with the qualifications for natural-born citizenship. AT ALL.
Just a little reading. This so-called journalist ought to take her own advice. Maybe she could start with this, the definition of natural born citizen that the Framers relied on:

I must tell you that even if those Marxist released the “evidence”, I wouldn’t trust that document for one second. Why would it take 8+ months for them to produce evidence of his citizenship unless there’s something to hide?
The Marxist administration, the Marxist Senate and House of Rep.’s, and the RINO’s desire to completely destroy this country and reshape our form of government. As a matter of fact, I have no doubt that they want us to revolt. The administration can declare marshal law and begin the imprisoning of the opposition.
The Communists have been busy for the last 40+ decades in penetrating our institutions of education, government, medicine, the entertainment industry, etc. in order to create “a new kind of human being”. And now they have thrown aside the mask.

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.
At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS
1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.
7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.
8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

(Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political or social problems.
43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

There’s simply not that much info on a birth certificate.
Biological vs adoptive parents maybe??? who the hell cares about that? Still wouldn’t alter his eligibility if he was born in HI.
I think that it is as simple as this....

He published a forged COLB in response to initial questions... that just made the issue grow wider.
He knows darn well that giving any additional information will only lead to additional disclosure and discovery processes that will prove what he has been hiding from the beginning.

Being well versed in both Article II of the Constitution and the 14th Amendment, this statement sticks in my gullet. Having done much more than "just a little reading" I am drawn to the completely opposite conclusion.
I agree. The 14th Amendment has absolutely nothing whatever to do with a natural born citizen - as a matter of fact, anything but.
A “natural born citizen” means, simply, that you were a citizen at the very moment of birth.
No act of Congress, after you were born, counts.
No “naturalization process” after you were born, counts.
Also, the legislation concerning citizenship has changed, several times, over the years.
It is ENTIRELY possible to be a “natural born citizen” or a citizen from the moment of birth, even if you were not born in this country, as long as both parents are of the proper age at that time of that birth, or as long as at least one parent is of proper age at the time of birth, provided that said parents are citizens.
At the time of Obama’s birth, the mother was required to be age 19. She was age 18.
Obama had to be born in Hawaii, or he is not a natural born citizen.
(I will grant the fact that other issues also impact this matter, such as dual citizenship, or possible renunciation of citizenship as part of a foreign adoption)

He didn't prove himself eligible to be POTUS prior to the election, so therefore, how can he be eligible at the present?
He can't. So he is not!
