Why are we destroying perfectly good tools as a nation with this "Cash for Clunkers" program?
Here is a video on what they do to the vehicles that are traded in for this program.
Here's a description from the video site:
This is a video document showing how to seize an engine under the Cash for Clunkers program...After draining the engine oil the vehicle is filled with approximately two-three quarts of salt/water/silica mix. The vehicle is then started and ran till the engine seizes. Enjoy!
I drive a 20 year old car that I love. (Sure it's bluebook value may be $200, but it runs and gets me to where I need to go. It's been all over America multiple times, and is still reliable.)
Why are we encouraging the destruction of perfectly good tools across our nation? What is wrong with our leaders? Why are we encouraging this behavior? There are so many uses for these cars!
Well it fits the leftist template.
The goal of the Baraqqis is to either get you into an Obamamobile or on a train or bus.
Fewer affordable repair parts makes maintaining your current ride less feasable and more expensive.
This is tied to Global Warming.
It’s as hysterical as burning witches at the stake.
Madness.
I grew up learning that thrift was a virtue. I have worked all my life to keep machinery running smoothly and to prevent this sort of failure.
Now our government is bribing people to destroy machinery and create waste, and spending my money to do it.
This is the polar opposite of everything I have been taught. It is deeply offensive to me. I know it is just a machine, but it is the work of somebody’s hands and somebody else has put a lot of money and effort into preserving it.
Our government is acting like Vandals. They are destroying for the sake of destroying, because that is all they know how to do.
There were otherwise normal-looking, normal-sounding, and very well educated people who were advocating bulldozing the “excess housing inventory” not too long ago.
“Our government is acting like Vandals. They are destroying for the sake of destroying, because that is all they know how to do.”
Fight fire with fire.
I get the feeling that someday the government is going to bribe some doctor to do the same thing to me.
This is Obamacare for automobiles.
Another thing to recall about the Cash for Clunkers program is how it hurts the poor. The program will take these clunkers off the street and give them to the government to destroy. But these are precisely the kinds of cars that poor or fixed-income people tend to purchase. Most of these clunkers are of course in fine shape, but they are not green enough according to government determinations. So poor people who cannot afford to purchase new, government-approved (and thus artificially expensive) automobiles will be told to go take a hike literally!
The government having melted down these clunkers, the market in low priced used cars will dry up, thus driving up cost and further hurting poor and working people as well as seniors and others on fixed income. Grandma who just needs a cheap old car to get down to the pharmacy for her prescriptions will thus be forced to walk or hire a cab, as the finance companies will take a look at her social security income and say next!
Cash for clunkers is an attack on the poor for the benefit of government-connected Big Auto big-wigs and GMAC-style bankster/moneylenders. As with most government programs, the poor get the short end of the stick.
Progressives always want to destroy old things (including people, it turns out).
IMO-C4C is a scam to move remaining inventory form the car lots.
Thrift used to be a specially characteristic American virtue. No more.
This is sheer insanity. I'll admit, I just realized today that the government's destruction of the trade-ins wasn't a joke.
This is a public-funded orgy of waste. Taking usable autos and equipment and destroying them? In a time of supposed need, the left is rewarding wastefulness and the mindless destruction of a resource (cheap used vehicles) used by poorer and/or thriftier citizens. The US isn't at war with Islamic fascists, but it is is officially at war with thrift and common sense.
When is this bull#$% going to end?
Has anyone really looked at the economics or even the enviromental impact of the program. Let's say the typical participant drives 12000 miles per year and goes from 20 mpg to 25 mpg. That would reduce fuel usage from 600 gallons per year to 480, saving 120 gallons per year or about $300. Saving that energy is good. But how much extra energy production is needed and pollution created by building hundreds of thousands of new cars and destroying thousands of "old" cars to get that 120 gallons of gas per year of savings? Is it a good trade-off. If it is the typical government program, the answer is almost certainly a big NO!After I wrote that I searched a couple sites that gave energy estimates for new car production in the 100 million BTU range. Each gallon of gasoline has around 120,000 BTUs of energy, so the car's production takes the energy equivalent of 833 gallons of gasoline. In the US that energy most likely comes from coal, the eeeeeeeevilest of the greenhouse gas producing fuels. So much for the 120 gallons / year savings.
The Chief Vandal’s numbers are tanking :)

Glenn Beck and Kimberly Guilfoyle Say Cars.gov Gives U.S. Government Access to Your Computer - Video 7/31/09

Here is video of Glenn Beck and Kimberly Guilfoyle today talking about the fact that users of the Government’s “Cars.gov” website actually are giving the government ongoing access to their computer. The “Privacy Agreement” - not read by many users - says that once connected to their system, the government considers the computer property of the U.S. Government.
Guilfoyle points out that once a computer uses the Cars.gov system, the government can continue to track a user and potentially access information.
Text of warning:
This application provides access to the DOT CARS system. When logged on the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system and is the property of the US Government.
Any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected or disclosed to authorized CARS, DOT, law enforcement personnel as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.
Note also that the congress voted another 3 or 4 billion to fund the Cash for Clunker program on Friday afternoon, July 31st.
Imagine the charities or other good causes they could donate these cars too. If they’re that much against profit, then at least donate them to good causes.
As well as the repair mechanics.
I really enjoy working on "clunkers" just like that, and I get a lot of satisfaction when I have the opportunity to get one back running for someone.
If those guys bought that on their own dime and decided to burn the engine up like that, while then their being dumb but thats their choice. What gets me is knowing that the engine being destroyed for no reason was bought on the national credit card.
Maybe I'm going to far with this, there is probably bigger things to get worked up over.
My question is what is left for people who cannot afford a new car, those that always buy the clunkers or better. What they going to do? I guess the mexican market is all they will have left, think what those clunkers will be worth when all of ours are gone.
