Yup. The original concept was a 21st Century book burning orgy to publicly destroy evil materials to pave way for materials deemed pure and righteous by the state.

This is sheer insanity. I'll admit, I just realized today that the government's destruction of the trade-ins wasn't a joke.

This is a public-funded orgy of waste. Taking usable autos and equipment and destroying them? In a time of supposed need, the left is rewarding wastefulness and the mindless destruction of a resource (cheap used vehicles) used by poorer and/or thriftier citizens. The US isn't at war with Islamic fascists, but it is is officially at war with thrift and common sense.
