Holy frak. Holy frak. HOLYROLLERBLADINGFRAK! Movie producers paid two Sukhoi Su-35 pilots to fly without a canopy at Mach 2.0, and have one of them eject in what probably is one of the most dangerous stunts ever filmed.
While on this speed I even managed to pull out my fingers in glove for an inch or two outside - it became heated very fast because of immense friction force plane undergoes with the air.
That's what the pilot who remained in the cabin said he did after his crazy comrade ejected, landing safely on the ground. I don't know what this movie is, but I definitely want to see it.
To add even more awesome details, the actual airplane is the SU-35UB prototype, identified by its tail number 801. This is the most advanced Sukhoi fighter ever built. Crazy Ivans indeed. [The Dew Line]

Considering the flame and smoke patterns, that is an about 200-250 knot ejection.

Everyone thinks they’re an expert here. I wonder if anyone can tell me the speed of an ejection seat from a stationary plane?
At 1400 mph, the plane would move two feet during a 1/1000 second exposure. That image is far too sharp for anything moving at that speed.

I didn’t see a maximum velocity mentioned; probably because that’d depend on the weight of the pilot, but there are numbers for the G-forces imposed. Interesting site, nonetheless.

Well, in my example the F-22 is the Lion. The Cheetah has absolutely no chance in a fight except to run. That’s what I meant anyway. Guess it wasn’t a very good analogy!

I understood the analogy but was thinking in terms of survival. The Cheetah could outrun the Lion every time. Kill ability is another thing.
There are a lot of problems with the F-22 from what I have heard, but agility is not one of them.
Cost, maintenance, support, and more.
BUT when in the air, nothing will out maneuver it. In a dogfight it is lethal.
150g/sec with a max of 14g. I figure the seat reaches a minimum of 12.8m/s when ejected from a stationary plane. I’m approximating to avoid doing any calculus. But it might be up to double that depending on how long the rocket fires after reaching the max of 14g.
12.8 x 3.28ft/m x 1mi/5280ft x 60^2 = about 300mph.
That’s not as fast as I thought.
There was an excellent thread here a few days ago about the so called mx problems with the F-22. Mostly teething problems you get with any new fighter. As for it’s lethality, it’s unmatched. Think P-51 going up against any WWI fighter. Agility is superior but that’s not really it’s strong suit. I’ve talked to F-15 pilots who have faced it in exercises. They never see it coming. First thing they know about it is when the F-22 pilot starts calling shots on them. Usually it runs: F-22 kills everything flying. Everything flying dies.
