Okay, so maybe fan isn't the right word, since she starts her comment by saying, "You don't know what you're talking about." But this is her argument:
"What Obama posted was a 2007 computer printout of a "Certificate of Live Birth" (the "COLB"). The information on the COLB was allegedly based on the facts contained in his original 1961 birth certificate. In November 2008, various state officials claimed that they personally examined the original to verify the COLB.
However, the original has NEVER been released. And just yesterday, Hawaii official changed their story when they told CNN researchers that all original birth certificates had been destroyed in 2001 when the state went paperless. So their claim that they verified' the information in the COLB against the original in 2008 was a lie. They just made up the information. But if they do still have the original like they claimed last year, then they are now lying about its existence so they don't have to release it and let the truth come out."
Okay. The bottom line is that, because Hawaii's records were digitized and then destroyed, there is no paper birth certificate or certificate of live birth (same thing) documenting Mr. Obama's birth. So what? Millions of vital records have been and/or are being scanned and destroyed. Probably even more have been destroyed in fires and natural disasters. Are the "birthers" (apparently the popular name -- so much nicer than wacko) saying that if you don't have a paper birth certificate you can't be President? If so, it should apply to everyone applying for a driver's license, Social Security, etc. Yet hundreds of thousands of people don't have birth certificates, and hundreds of thousands more will not have them as paper records are phased out. Should they be denied their rights?
My correspondent also reports that McCain was also sued about his birthplace, and tells me to stop playing the race card. Well, if it's not race, what is it? A hatred of digitized records? Or a genuine, heartfelt belief, despite all the evidence, that Obama was born in Kenya? What evidence is there of that? Please, people, let's move on and deal with things happening now, like the economy and health care. We're not killing trees in this debate (at least not here) but we are wasting time. I for one am thoroughly convinced Mr. Obama was born in America, and actually I don't care, since the whole reason for the native-born requirement was to keep Alexander Hamilton from becoming President.

And if this particular clause of the Constitution just isn't important, which one is next? The 1st Amendment? The 14th? Maybe we think those aren't important and then what?

1961 - something happens somewhere that was notable to someone. Fast forward to 2007 - they use a document or record (???) that documented something that happened in 1961 and printed some kind of verification. But, in 2001, all the records were destroyed, so what the HELL was reviewed in 2007 to create the computer-generated document in circulation now? How stooopid do they think we are? /rhetorical

I believe Obama states in his book that he was going through his grandmother’s belongings and he found his birth certificate.

No doctors, nurses or staff remember(have any record) helping deliver the resident of the USA
I'm not at all familiar with what they do in Hawaii, but it can't be all that different from anywhere else when it comes to official documents.
No way could they legally destroy the paper records without making a complete record of their contents. The 'certificate of live birth' doesn't contain all the information that's in an original long form birth certificate (in fact it's a different document). Therefore, it couldn't act as a legal substitute.
Here's where I think they're lying. They DID destroy the paper documents -- but they microfilmed them first. That's what has been done in Georgia. Any birth certificates before WWII have been microfilmed and the paper records destroyed.
The Hawaii authorities are trying to cover for Obama by saying 'the paper records were destroyed' but just happening not to mention that they were all microfilmed first. Betcha money.

Msot government agencies I am familiar with (state of Cal for 28 years) stored their paper records after digitizing their systems. Why would they destroy the source documents?
