Walter Cronkite is dead and I extend my sympathy to this relatives and friends who grieve. As for me, I cannot find it in myself to mourn his passing. I watched his version of the news constantly, recalling his famous closing line “and that’s the way it is.” The problem is, as I learned later, that’s not the way it was.
Walter Cronkite was labeled ...“the most trusted man in America.” He, and many others, used that trust to create an aura around the news business that it has taken literally decades to reveal as a false front. At a time when information was one-way and media outlets were severely limited in number, the version of reality that was reflected by Walter Cronkite shaped public opinion so massively that opposing opinions stood no chance. That is why it was Walter Cronkite who ended America’s quest for victory in Viet Nam.
In mid-February, in the immediate aftermath of the Tet Offensive, both Gallup and Harris noted a surge in American support for the war. Both pollsters said 61% of Americans favored a stronger military response against the North Vietnamese Army. 70% of Americans favored increased bombing of North Vietnamese targets, which was up from 63% in the previous December.
Then came Cronkite's February 27 commentary.
In early March, just a few days later, 49% of Americans said it was a mistake to have entered the Vietnam conflict. Only 35% believed the war would end within two years. 69% now approved of a phased withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam.*

My father-in-law was onto them...but we all thought he was wrong at the time. When the news would come on he would rant about liars telling lies and calling it news. Called them lying S.O.B.s, said Cronkite was a communist - very colorful rants about the news anchors and idiots that believed them. He was ahead of his time, but then that man was with Patton in WWII and not easily fooled.
And its doctrine of sedition and treason.
And who got Walter his gig? Edward R. Murrow. One of the original communist reporters.
Ever notice all these guys supported WWII? I guess because a socialist was president at the time.

The time will come when these traitors will be exposed for what they are. The Obamanistas think that by breaking the American economy they will usher in revolution followed by a worker’s paradise. I think that it will cause America to turn on this ‘fifth column’ and remove it root, tree, and branch.
Walter was a no good, lying, shit. I’m sure he is in a very warm place now.

The problem was, too many people DID believe him, because they were expecting TRUTH from the nightly news, and he exploited that.
Heh, I probably just scandalized my 45 year old nephew, and his friends, when I gave my opinion of Walter Crankcase, as a response to his Facebook comment lamenting his death.

The public onanism of the media is disgusting and socially perverted.
I mean that literally. They revel in their self-centeredness, monumental self-delusion, is sickening underserved self-importance. Yet they trumpet the wonderfulness of themselves without pause or shame. That’s what I mean by “perverted.”
Remember back in the fifties and sixties the alphabets weren't quite so egregiously in the lib camp although they certainly leaned that way. Chet Huntley was a conservative as was Howard K. Smith the anchor at ABC for a number of years. Cronkite completely gave the game away after he retired. About ten years ago he gave an interview where he said global government is a certainty as if he looked forward to it.

My experience is like yours. The difference was that the person who called the MSM a bunch of liars was a very pretty young woman. I thought she was nuts. Now I know that I was the one who was deceived.
