Outsmarting himself, Reid may have waited too long on Sotomayor confirmation.
The Collins Report ^ | July 7, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

We seem to have beaten back Cap and Trade. Nancy Pelosi embarrassed herself and ended up getting it through with a slim margin narrowly withstanding the humiliating defection of 44 Democrats. Nevertheless, Obama’s constant attacks are far from over. We can’t rest for a minute in our fight for America.

Radical Socialist: Sotomayor

The next fight is keeping Sonia Sotomayor off the Supreme Court. Because of Harry Reid’s ineptitude it won’t be an easy task. Reid is frightened of the matter. His popularity is waning in Nevada and Obama’s popularity is sinking nationally.

It appears Reid has made a tactical error by holding up Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings. Instead of watching Pelosi’s circus, he should have fast tracked the hearings and rammed her through while the nation’s attention was focused elsewhere.

Now the “ram through” window might be closed. While Reid was treading water, Senate Republicans were diligently working to discover damaging material about Sotomayor and they have. What’s been discovered isn’t helpful for her.

She was a member of the legal staff of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund when it handled a case similar to the Ricci matter in which she was a reversed. A group of Puerto Rican (not American by their own designation) New York City Sanitation workers complained of a lack of promotions because of their “race.” Sotomayor helped them sue the city.

Caught Red handed

Senator Jeff Sessions, senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee has examined hundreds of newly discovered pages of material about Sotomayor. He reports they prove she’s totally immersed in the belief that racial preferences must trump the constitution.

The longer Reid waits the more stink will rise from Sotomayor. Americans are withdrawing their support for her. Maybe Reid’s waited too long.

Stopping Sotomayor is a fight worth waging.

The longer Reid waits the tougher it will be and the worse he and the other Marxists will look. If he drags her through with 60% public disapproval it will hurt them. So even though we know she will be confirmed by keeping the pressure up we can make it a Pyrhic viictory. We can turn this into something positive.

Don’t burn your powder on fighting a leftist taking the seat of a leftist.

we need to defeat this healthcare debacle.

sotomayor is a distraction. make your points about her racist opinions but there is no need to go to the mat over it.

Even with Frankenstine, they don’t have the numbers. I wrote another letter to my congresscritter Ike Skelton. Ike voted for C&T.

Racism is racism - doesn't matter if it's blind hatred of blacks or total favoritism of Puerto Ricans. Or knee jerk prejudice against white men. Racism is racism. Sotomayor's starting to look like a racist.

Most of them left with permission. Pelosi had a sorted list of which Dems were most at risk for voting for Cap and Tax and allowed the top ones to go. If more than 8 Republicans had defected she would have allowed more Dems to vote against it.

I go by the Martin Luther King standard: not be judged by the color of a person's skin but by the content of their character. It is simple, doesn't require me to keep track of who is a “minority” within a given situation, and can be equally applied to everyone, every time. Most people accept it as being the most fair, except those who are so steeped in racial hatred that they are looking for an excuse to either exclude or show preference to someone.

Americans overwhelmingly oppose racial preferences. Exposing this racist for what she is is good for our cause. Why follow the medias advice on what our strategies should be? Not going after this pig so we don’t offend illegals is absurd.

I totally agree with you. An aside: I heard MLK speak in Chicago a few months after he gave his "I have a Dream" speech in Washington. What he did in Chicago was to speak only about his vision - dream - for the future. It was a much better speech than the one given in Washington. At one point I remember looking around and noticing how many people were crying as he spoke. It was that beautiful. I've never heard anything like that speech before - or since. Peak moment in my life.

It would be great if the Leftists being members of racist hate groups (LaRaza, NOI, Rev. Wrights’ church, etc.) were treated the same as whites who are members of racist hate groups when it comes to government involvement and jobs.

This would put most leftists out of commission for leadership positions for decades.

Sotomayor is NOT a racist. Only groups with power, like straight white Christian males, can be racist.

I am not saying she should not be challenged, called out and thorougly shown to be the racist she is. And it certainly has nothing to do with offending illegals or anyone else of the Hispanic persuasion.

I am saying that its pointless to spend what little political weaponry is left to “fight” to see she is defeated. Her seat on the bench doesn’t change the balance of the court. It would be different if it did.

Your point about Reid being inept is well taken; in this matter he completely ignored his own party’s “successful” history.

Janet Reno was selected by Clinton after Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood bombed and he absolutely did not want a third loser. He told Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joe Biden to make the confirmation happen, and to make it happen fast.

Biden, a good foot soldier (and perhaps sensing a threat) rushed through what amounted to a 15 minute confirmation hearing with limited Republican participation before whacking the gavel. Reno went on, to notable achievements, of course, including the Ruby Ridge incident, the storming of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco and, although there were no deaths involved perhaps her crown political jewel, the Elián González affair.

As noted upthread, Republicans have nothing to gain with this nomination except the important opportunity to display to the nation the hypocrisy inherent in the nomination.

At the same time, it has been proposed by other Freepers that the Republicans go on the offense and introduce a list of several preeminently qualified Hispanics. One can only dream.

Ya, she will be confirmed, but she should be on the hot seat while in the confirmation hearings.

Don’t forget how they put Roberts and Alito on the hot seat. And don’t forget past battles such as Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork. There’s nothing wrong with hilighting her racial/ethnic opinions, even if ultimately she gets confirmed.

That "only people with power" concept is so racist and stupid that I'm amazed anyone bought it. Then again, the poverty pimps were selling it to the liberal establishment - media and academic - not a hard sell when it comes to brain-dead shills...
