Krauthammer's Take (Palin's strategy could work in the (very) long run -- maybe 2016, not 2012)

Krauthammer's Take [NRO Staff]

From Friday's "All-Stars."

On Palin’s resignation:

Look, this is the most unexpected and, I would say, erratic political announcement since John McCain declared in the middle of September he was going to suspend his campaign so he could solve our financial crisis, which, unfortunately, he didn't.

It also had a tinge here of Nixon's 1962 "you won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore" resignation—actually, it was his concession speech in '62. It had a personal edge.

And on one level, you can accept it and say there was a lot of heat in the kitchen. She wanted to get out. There were attacks on her. The ethics investigations, all of which had not panned out, attacks on the family. She mentioned attacks on Trig, the mocking of Trig. That is tough stuff, and she wanted out.

If she has a calculation for the future, I would say that it has to be 2016 or beyond. It's not going to be in 2012. You have to remember, she is extremely young. In 2016, she will be only 52. In 2020, she will be a young presidential candidate.

I think if she has a strategy, and here I'm not sure, it would be to become a national figure, a conservative figure, work on the movement, educate herself, get boned up on national issues—which you are distracted from if you're in Alaska—and look at the long run.

So I think it can work out in the future, but in the short run, for 2012, I think this is utterly leaving her out of the picture.

And now, two minutes of hate for Mr. Krauthammer.

Who was it that said that from his perspective he can’t see the whole picture?

As always, Krauthammer speaks truth and wisdom.

I guess you’re either a DC elitist or you’re not. Why are they so afraid?

So ordinarily we're outraged by the belittling of handicapped people, but when it's for SARAH's sake, things are different?

There is much to fear in re-electing 0bama.

If you can get an unqualified, dope-smoking, coke-snorting, illegal elected less than two years after being elected to the Senate, why can't we get a former governer elected in 2012?

It makes no sense.

They really don't believe Sarah can pull it off because she's so hated by the Left and they'll use hatred for her to energize their base.

They're afraid of the Marxist and believe Americans would go for ABO (Anyone besides Obama).

a.) America as we know it would be gone by that point (2020) after the Obama 3th term.

b.) I don’t think you quit a job today with a 12 year plan toward running for president. Hell, 12 years before he became the Dem nominee, Obama was stranded in the LA Airport after the DNC Nominating Clinton with no way to pay for a flight home. I think he was still community organizing at that time. He may have been thinking about it, but he was a lifetime away from where he would end up.

c.) 3 years 4 months is a long time to get a presidential campaign organized and running. Why wait?

I don’t think she wants to be President..can’t we just WAIT AND SEE what she’s going to do? I hope she forms a national organization...like MOVEON.ORG...but sane.

Go pound sand Krauthammer.

Krauthammer happens to be correct.

Sarah Palin has nothing at this point to recommend her as a serious presidential candidate.

She is "experienced" only in comparison to Barak Obama, and she just quit the one job that could have put her on the track to gain it.

Perhaps more importantly, her "folksy demeanor" is grating to the point of obnoxiousness. Some defend this as "straight-talking," but it's no substitute for serious intellectual heft, which she has yet to demonstrate.

That Krauthammer's cogent assessment prompts you to tell him to pound sand, says much about your own dedication to Palin's celebrity. It doesn't speak well of your political judgment.

The problem with Palin running in 2016 is that it assumes an Obama second term. Or Obama gets primaried by his own party and yet the Dems still win. Or the GOP wins and the candidate states that he will only serve one term. Or its a RINO and Palin primaries him.

None of those seem very palatable, except maybe the third one.

I respect Krauthammers opinion. We’ve all got one. But I have even more respect for a politician who will risk it all for the good of this country. Palin needs a break from the hate long enough to take stock of her family, write a book, find out who her real supporters are and slay a moose or two for the freezer. She’ll be back when the time is right.

My take is that she wanted to defuse the “hate Palin” media before they permanently damaged her chances of the presidency. Just like the sheeple were programmed for year after year to hate Bush, the media was going to destroy Sarah before she had a chance.

If 0bama is still president on Jan 21 2013, the winner of the 2020 election will already be known.
