It's not clear why Sarah Palin resigned her position as governor of Alaska, but it must have been for one of the following reasons:
(1) there is a scandal that would have made her position as governor untenable,
(2) she couldn't take the heat that was coming her way,
or
(3) she concluded that it was in her best interests to do something other than fulfill the duties associated with the position the voters of Alaska entrusted to her.
In all three scenarios, Palin is unfit for high office, and certainly unfit to be the vice president or the president of the United States. Moreover, Palin's resignation confirms how disappointingly reckless it was of John McCain to choose the then-untested governor to be his running-mate.
And what are we to make, in retrospect, of the euphoria that greeted McCain's selection of Palin -- a euphoria that made the Republican convention seem so strange to me that, for the first time in my life, I felt I had returned to the real world when I arrived back in Washington, DC? I imagine the euphora was founded on the desperation Republicans felt as we saw the presidency slipping away, having already lost control of Congress.
There's no dishonor in this reaction; the dishonor belongs to those like Peggy Noonan who understood the situation but would only express it when they thought their microphone was off. But when we conservatives say that we need a restoration of conservative values, we should remember that one of those values -- perhaps the most important -- is sobriety.
I can only hope to be that cuckoo. But I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Sarah, they get it but they just want to remain in denial about Palin. These FReepers criticizing Palin are, IMO, straight-up Republican Party hacks who'll follow the party into a well.

How about the SURREAL fact that the media and 53% of the people elected an outright fraud who will not explain any of his background to us?

Obama is up to his eyeballs in scandal...of every type ...he is a con, a fraud...a faker...this is worse than the Twilight Zone.
Dole was the Republican Leader of the Senate, which the Republicans had just captured control of 1994. So that meant he resigned as leader of the Senate two years into the job. Sound familiar?
More importantly, it didn't matter whether he was 2 years or 20 years into the job. What mattered was that he was honest enough to admit that he couldn't do the job properly while running for President. It used to be we praised politicians for adopting that kind of attitude. My how attitudes have changed.
I think all public officials should be forced to resign when/if they seek another office and are not putting their full time and energies into the office to which they were elected. Period.

You've given up on her. Do you think that all the people who had that "euphoria" thing for her have given up on her now as well?
Giving the Lt. Gov more legs to ‘prove’ himself for a run when her term expired is a “bankable strategy”. It would not have served the people of Alaska for her to remain in the office (even if for only the remainder of one term) and eventually step down later for a 2012 run. If she’d been elected for a second term as Governor, the McLame RINOs and the LIEberal media would still be using their poor attempt to discredit her by “abandoning her office”. Nor do I think the RINO-pushed “quitter” label will stick.
Of course they will use the ‘experience’ angle once again since it only matters if a Republican is running. Experience certainly wasn’t a factor with sHillary or DUh-bama.
Sarah Palin is “stepping down” from Alaskan Governor to move on to a higher calling, thus driving the LIEberal (and RINO) media to be twisted in knots still trying to figure out a playbook to deal with it....making a$$es out of themselves in the process.
Let the RINOs out themselves now and they can follow Arlen Specter back to their DNC masters where they belong.
As a Duncan Hunter supporter, I heard the same crap last election. Hunter is unelectable, we need to get someone who can win. So everyone goes about chasing down second bests all over the place and we end up not winning. I go for the best Reaganlike person, not who appears to be able to win. After I win, I want a conservative agenda pushed forward.

I continue to be amazed at how many people on the Right and Left continue to criticize Governor Palin on this decision.
The PDS crowd [on the right and left] has sanctioned the following:
1. The idea of raping Sarah Palin
2. The idea of raping one of Sarah Palin’s daughters
3. Burning Sarah Palin’s church after the election.
In what sense do the “sober” commentators get to say “she just can’t take it in politics”?
This is politics? This is a community built on hatred exceeding BDS.
The Sarah Naysayer reactionaries are prepared to destroy the state of Alaska and all of the civic functions of the governor’s office in order to prevent her election in 2012.
Why should the citizens of Alaska suffer for the PDS crowd that knows full well that they not only want this— they are actively doing this and have been doing it for months.
There are no bounds to the irrational actions taken against Governor Palin.
I think many of them are enraged that as a private citizen they will have greater difficulties engaging in the politics of personal destruction which they so emphatically endorse.
Powerline is usually a good blog too. Very disappointed in them. If I wanted to read this swill, I'd just flip on MSNBC.

I’m not giving up; I’m being honest. Do you truly think Sarah Palin - with two years as governor under her belt - has the experience to be president? I don’t. NO, for the zillionth time, Obama doesn’t either. But I like to think we could hold ourselves to a higher standard than Obama supporters.
Right now, Sarah doesn’t have the credentials to earn my vote in a primary, and I can’t think of anything she can do between now and 2012 to change that.
If we are to have a chance, we need to find a serious candidate. I’ve gotta say, the field looks pretty bleak. Jindal is promising but could also stand to get some more experience under his belt. Still, he presents fewer problems than Palin.
Sarah has held elective and appointed office for 17 years.
If that isn't experienced, then I don't know what is.
