You could hire 1,000,000 people at $50,000 for a year to twiddle their thumbs for five hours a day, and it would only cost fifty billion dollars! And they would pay fifteen billion dollars in income tax alone!

So what IS happening to all this money?

I just checked, 1/2 hour of this posted today is already 20 more responses than yesterday’s question about congress telecommuting from their district. Go figure.

Transport back in time to last September and do none of the stupid, unconstitutional things the government has done from that time on. And when it got to be November again, don’t elect an economic moron, who lacks understanding of even the most basic economic principles, as president.

Took a look at the poll: too simplistic.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Let Americans put Americans back to work. Expand and fund the Small Business Administration. Streamline the process (dump the red tape). People have lots of ideas that they'd love to do as a small "cottage industry" type of thing, whether it's B2B or retail.
Spending money will get the economy going; selling things will generate taxes, and those that fail will learn a skill that those that are successful can make use of by hiring them.

I voted cut spending.

Every dollar they spend is a dollar that can’t be spent in a more efficient place.

Well as far as the federal government goes...

Even out trade barriers worldwide and engage emerging markets.

I’m sick of people confusing mere job creation with actual economic growth—which can occur with or without job creation, and which is ALWAYS accompanied with some job *destruction*. Any idiot can create jobs. Hire people to dig ditches and hire other people to fill them. Repeat. Voila, instant job creation. And the economy would actually contract.

Looking at history, I am going to say cut the tax rates.

Kennedy originally asked for it (the top income tax rate) to be reduced to 65%, but Congress slashed this down to 70%. During a speech, JFK stated, "the current tax system exerts too heavy a drag on growth …reduces the financial incentives for personal effort, investment and risk taking."

Reagan's plan cut taxes across-the-board by 25%...The top tax rate was further lowered to 28% in 1986.

What resulted was the largest peacetime expansion in the history of the United States, and record lows for inflation and unemployment.

moratorium on capital gains taxes and allow zero sum capital losses written off from last year

capital losses personally are only 3000/year which is gonna kill folks who lost half their portfolio value last 12 months

let them take the entire write down if they can use it

The best thing we could do for jobs is to make sure a majority of elected Democrats lose theirs.
