Crockpot Chicken
Posted on 06/27/2009 9:12:23 PM PDT by Lost Dutchman
I am currently rendering down some chicken wings in my crock pot.
They are to be reduced to loose meat for BBQ sandwich meat.
During the cooking process, I realized that I smelled the chicken on more than one level.
Part of me had little appeal for the chicken, since it was devoid of sauce or spices.
However, another part salivated over the smell of plain chicken and wanted to start eating as soon as I could get the chicken cool enough to handle. (I ignored this part btw)
I was curious if anyone else has experienced this "dual" craving while cooking.
Thanks.

Slightly off topic: Has anyone had the new Chicken at Wendy’s? Tried the Asian and Honey BarBQ today, and it’s very good for a fast food joint.

Never thought of “hunger” that way before, but I’ll see if it happens.

So much for the BBQ sandwiches tommorrow, eh? You’re in big trouble with someone I bet!

I smiled reading your post — and a relief from the other “news”. Yes — I know what you mean about the senses/cooking but usually notice it with home made apple pie which is btw very simple with pre-made crust.
Do you get much meat off of wings? I would use legs/thighs.

The magic to excellent food preparation is to treat the food item with simplicity and respect.
Sauces and flavoring should enhance, never overpower.

In this “take out” world we live in it takes something like what you are doing to even make us hungry sometimes, doesn’t it. Good luck with the BBQ. What time’s dinner?

A food connoisseur has the ability to approach food on many different levels; taste, appearance, smell, sounds, texture, etc. Even things like the type of salt that is used, the size of the cut pieces, the crispness of the crust on the bread, etc all come into play. Food science is big business as well for processed food products.

Speaking of chicken, didn’t Ahmedinajad say recently that the president made “a mistake” in criticizing the Iranian regime? Meanwhile, the N. Koreans are threatening to nuke us if we interfere with their war ships.
Our enemies have no fear or respect for our fashionably pacifistic CIC. It’s not exactly a comforting thought.~
