Beck delivers Paine in his Common Sense
Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | June 25, 2009 | Salena Zito

The Merriam-Webster definition of "common sense" is pretty straightforward: "sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts."

The phrase originated in 1726 — 50 years before Thomas Paine penned his pamphlet, "Common Sense," and gave voice to the rising sentiments of American colonists before the Revolutionary War.

Glenn Beck, Fox News commentator and host of a talk show on TV and radio, thought perhaps it was time for America to have a little more Paine — which is why he penned a 21st century version of the "Common Sense" pamphlet.

Mark Levin keeps complaining about Beck’s book. I like them both though.

Often in life we forget to rely on our gut, where our life-choices are made. "Common Sense" the book, like Paine's original pamphlet, kicks you in that gut — and it's a kick you won't soon forget.

Yhea...very much like the actions of "our" Congress-critters / Government Bureaucrats & the UnionThugs; are creating their own little Fiefdoms, much like the Soviet / ChiComms / Oligarchical / Feudal societies thoughtout history.

Well, previously he had said things to the effect of-- Glenn Beck only started doing the whole Constitution, state rights thing after Mark Levin's book went #1.

And today or yesterday, he said unlike Glenn Beck he didn't stuff his book with Federalist Papers, quotes, etc.-- he wrote it himself.

Levin also said he can't mention Glenn Beck by name anymore because Sean Hannity gets mad at him.

Mark is a republican stalwart and his goal is to reform the GOP in a conservative direction. Beck has a “screw the party” attitude and often seems to think he is the leader of the “independents”.

But beck is also pounding on the socialism and marxism that Obama and the dems are trying to cram down America’s throat. All hands on deck are needed to fight this destruction. That is why I don’t care much for the pissin matches that Savage and Levin and some of the other yakkers constantly engage in.

Worry about the immediate problem of trying to save the country, then when that is completed, they can duke it out to see who is the ‘real’ genius amongst themselves.

Beck no longer does the party thing, and Levin sees the GOP as the vehicle for conservatism to flourish. Frankly, I think that if the GOP is the vehicle, we’re screwed on the side of the road with 4 flat tires and only Lindsay Graham to change them.

Also, I think there’s a bit of jealousy about Beck’s breakout success. He complains that Beck lifts parts of his book, when Beck was saying these things long ago. I find it very unprofessional. And that’s coming from a Levin fan.

Sorry Mark...Glenn is one talented dude on television...his radio show is pretty good also...What’s with all the sniping?...very unprofessional...i see some jealousy here...just do your show Mark and let your book stand on its own...in other words..shut up and inform/entertain me.

Beck’s book is #1 on NYT this coming week, Levin may be jealous that it is Beck who knocked him off the top spot... that said, Mark is a smart man, he doesn’t need to spew the stuff he is about Beck.. I’ve been following BEck’s Tweets and the stress of what is going on is really weighing on this man, this is not a game to him, he takes what is happening to this country deadly serious.

I follow his tweets also...my wife and I have been wondering how Glenn decompresses...he has been burning the candle at both ends for a while and i think it is effecting his health....Glenn seems to be a genuine good guy that may be letting this rat race of a world get to him...hope he can keep his chin up...i would prefer to see Glenn drop his radio show and stick to his TV show if he needs to step back a bit.

Levin is an incredibly smart man...he doesn’t need to snipe Glenn...Beck doesn’t deserve that.

I’m not a big Savage fan but he fills the enrage white guy niche pretty good in a kooky way...but his trashing of Glenn Beck because he doesn’t have a college degree has just about ended my occasional listening to him...I am seeing through Savage’s phony schtick...it won’t suprise me to see him implode.....i think he has a serious problem with women also....i’ve defended the man a few times but i’m solidly in Beck’s corner....Beck realizes both parties are corrupt to the core and i think it is getting to him.

Maybe that is why Levin looks down on him as well. Glenn talked about his lack of degree one day, he has ADHD and said it was very difficult for him, but one day he walked into a library and has been a book worm ever since. IMHO one of the reasons Beck stays so interesting — even with his kookiness is he reads all the time... several books a week... Hannity needs to read more, it would help him round out; I used to listen to Savage off and on, but after he and his wife donated to Jerry Brown I have never listened to him since...

Yep...Rush doesn’t have a degree either...Levin is smart...but Rush and Glenn have natural talent in spades...Mark has intellect but isn’t very entertaining AFAIC

also...i knew many PhD’s in college...most were lib flakes.

How many of our Founding Fathers had big fancy degree titles?

I can take Mark in very small doses — Hannity, too... Mark is very rude most of the time, which is a shame since he is smart and has a lot of knowledge he could impart, and Hannity is a broken record who delights in inviting liberals on so he can spar with them.. I’ve decided trying to talk to libs is a complete waste of time and I don’t find them at all entertaining ergo Hannity is a bore. Beck takes what is happening to our government and country deadly serious — probably too serious for his own good health... as does Rush.

I agree with this post.

I would say that Glenn and Mark are different and each have something important to contribute, but Mark is cutting his own throat by constantly criticizing other hosts. It comes across as jealousy. And, yes, he does have something to be jealous of.

Mark is very intelligent, but can be very nasty and petty. I don’t blame Hannity for telling him to cool it, but talking in innuendo about someone you will not name is just silly. It needs to stop. We need some unity here.

Mark Levin has been posting here on Free Republic long before he got the radio spotlight. Did some great work as a lawyer working against the corrupt Clinton Regime. It disappoints me to find out he’s taking pot shots at some of the good guys.
