Let me be clear about two very important things before I continue in this article.
1. This is not going to be anything about how personal income tax is unconstitutional. While I actually believe it is, right now if you dont pay it you get in a lot of trouble, you must pay all your legal tax obligations.
2. I am not a tax expert or a financial adviser. This article is more about exactly how to think about taxes then the specifics of how to reduce them.
Cutting to the chase on this let me say when it comes to income taxes you should either learn the system or hire a damn good accountant to work the system for you.
The bigger issue is, why exactly is minimizing all taxation a survivalist topic? I know it doesnt sound like typical survivalism, but it is a fundamental part of my 10-part modern survival philosophy for a very good reason. Survivalists are not the people living in bunkers that the media makes them out to be. Above all their primary goals revolve around self sufficiency. When you pay taxes there are two factors at play that reduce your self sufficiency and in fact increase dependency upon government.

He gives some good suggestions on ways to lighten your tax burden.
I paid more in income taxes this past year than all my years of paying taxes combined. Sad part about it is, I know it's only gonna get worse.
Self Reliant/Survivalist ping list
Great post!!!
I’ve been considering giving myself tax cuts in several ways. This article has lots of good advice.
Contest your property taxes when they send you the bill. Take pics of neighbors properties, show devaluation of their and your properties due the market, poor upkeep, neglect, damage etc etc ......I saved a bundle fighting the recent increases in my small town. Have yer ducks in a row and you can win that fight easily.
We claim on W4’s so we can take almost all of our pay and pay the taxes at the end of the year versus each pay day. I would rather max my 401k, Roth IRA and Tax Free Municipal Funds etc, risk losing a large portion of it there and lower my takes than give it outright to uncle sugar socialists . Look at tax free charities also . Promote conservative charities and keep the dollars you’d lose anyway from the socialist bank roll !
Also consider restoring an OLD 25 year old or better vehicle and licensing it as a classic or antique. We do. Tags, fees etc are 25% of a new rides costs for such. As well insurance is a lot lower. As well vehicles that are pre seat belt era and emissions era cost you less in the forms of fines and fees. I drive a clean little 55 4 door shoebox chevy to work . Insurance and upkeep etc is much less.
Get into itemizing your returns. If Uncle Sugar is going to force us to play his game , play it within his rules and better than he can........LEGALLY !!
Also when you shop looks at foods in the stores that are NOT taxed ! Most produce and foods that aren’t “instant” easy cook stuff !
Just my small efforts......sometimes I lose, sometimes I win.......:o)
Stay safe !
He’s got it backwards on control. Stratospheric taxes create a black market that avoids all government control.
Unintended consequences.
This is very good advice. You can improve on the above advice slightly by avoiding the early emission years from 1976 through 1984, especially on imported cars. 1975 and earlier: cool. 1985 and later: cool (but they aren't classics yet). Broadly speaking of course (always exceptions).
An example: the domestic 1985 Corvette was vastly superior to the 1984 Vette, even though the 1984 Vette was the first of the new body style C4's. Next year the 1985 Vette will be a classic car eligible for cheap antique tags.
Get tired of it and the government will buy it from you with their Cash For Clunkers boondoggle. Fix it up and you've got a sharp-looking highway screamer. Either way, you win.
Yeah I had a 84, it road rougher than a old truck !
But the gas mileage on cruise control was 25 to 27 mpg .....:o)
I live close enough to work I can get my moneys worth from avoiding the fees and licenses with my old shoebox and if I forget to put on my seat belt .........so what !......:o)
Stay safe !
Well, you might stay safer wearing that seat belt, friend!
Oh I wear one....but hate letting the police profit from my bad memory if I forget to put it on. I use cruise control and stay 5 to 10 mph below the limit and use a tom tom gps to warn me when I exceed the speed limit. Trying to keep every penny I can from the socialist !
I’ve been listening to Jack’s podcasts since last year.
He does a lot of research and shares a lot of good ideas. He goes off on the occasional rant, but hey, in this day and age, who doesn’t! He’s well worth listening to. His bugout place is pretty close to me. Perhaps I’ll get meet him one of these days soon.
