I'm writing this fairly quick because I wanted to see if anyone else in NJ experienced the same thing today.
I just went to vote and was told I was not able to vote in the Republican primary because I was registered as a democrat.
I've never voted for a democrat and have never registered with the dnc.
"Well, someone must have entered the information wrong" is what I was told. "You'll have to take it up with the board of elections".
Great. So I can't vote today?
"Sure you can vote today. Just not in the Republican Primary."
Apparently not!
Usually they don't register you as a dem, and vote for you until you die. They decided that as a pubbie, you are irrelevant, so they are voting for you now.
Well, get down to “voting central” (wherever that is for you) and have them get on their computers and check it out (not your precinct, but the headquarters for the city).
Your vote belongs to ACORN. It has been assimilated.

She checked her computer and tells me that her information says I voted for a democrat in the last primary!
I told her that I voted for a republican (Thompson) and within a few weeks after that I started getting all sorts of mail from the RNC asking me for money.
She’s checking the actual record with my signature now.

Cool..., glad you’re getting some action. If you find out that someone has made a change in the records, differently than you registered, then you’ve really got something then....

Checked the record and said I was right. She told me I should go back, cast a provisional ballot, and she would make sure my vote was counted. I guess the county is small enough that she would catch that sort of thing.
She told me that it must have bene human error that caused me to be listed as a democrat.
Color me skeptical
Not today. But 20 years ago, I went to vote in a Democrat[ic] primary in California only to discover that I had been reregistered as an Independent! Rather unsettling to know that one's voice can be silenced by unseen forces.
But that also brings other problems, the dims can torpedo a good Republican by crossing over when they have an incumbent or clear front-runner.

LOL! That should be taken as prima facie evidence. The Republican party is not going to waste postage on a registered Democrat, and vice versa. So the fact that you received all sorts of mail from the RNC proves that you're a registered Republican.... Bet you got a lot of robocalls from Steve Lonegan too.
Probable tomorrow's news:
"When interviewed, the data entry clerk said, 'whoa, we actually have a registered Republican??? wow, I just did a column fill down of Dem, just like we've done for ages here.'"
Holy crap. I did not have any problems at all. I signed the registry, the woman said “And you’re Republican, correct?” I said yes, and then voted. Creeepy.
This is another difference I encountered moving from Texas to New York: Having to declare my party to register to vote. What is up with this? In Texas, you voted in the primary you wanted to vote in the day of the primary. Your voter registration card was stamped “voted in xxx primary, xx/xx/xx.”
This is crap that you were denied the right to vote in the primary. Are the polls still open? Do primaries run until 9pm like regular elections? Please go back and demand to vote!

After talking with the Camden County Superintendent of Elections I went back to the polling location to fill out a provisional ballot. The folks at the polling location were surprised to see me. I will need to call the Superintendent a few days from now to find out if my vote will count and if not, why not. She assured me that it would, but at this point, who knows?!

When I went back to the polling place, the clerks were gathered around listening to one of their ranks tell a story to an election official, who had stopped in to check on things. The clerk was recalling an earlier incident where a voter had insisted he was listed incorrectly as a democrat. He handled the problem and told the voter that the record was correct.
I spoke up and announced that I had returned to file a provisional ballot per the instructions of the County Superintendent.
Seeking some sort of explanation, the election official asked me if I had voted for obama in the presidential election.
I told her no, I voted in the republican primary and did not vote for obama in the presidential election. I have a stack of post mail from the RNC to show for it. Besides, the County Superintendent confirmed my signature on the official record, not the little spreadsheets they all carried.
She apologized for the inconvenience and asked the clerk if he had offered me a provisional ballot. The clerk just shook off the question and went to fetch a dayglow orange bag that carried provisional ballots. The bag was locked with plastic zip tie that the clerk was struggling to open. He asked me if I had a knife to open the bag. I didn’t reply. Then he asked me if I had a gun. I said no.
They set up a table for me to fill out the ballot and a makeshift cardboard ballot booth to shield my vote from prying eyes. When I was done the clerk then walked me through the process and sent me off with a slip of paper advising me to follow up in 10 days.
When I left, they all congratulated me on my persistence.
