April's Dhimwit of the Month - LGF's Charles Johnson
The Religion of Peace (the blog, not the religion) ^ | 30 April 2009

Posted on 05/01/2009 10:14:27 AM PDT by Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus

Anyone who has made a fool out of the mainstream media as often as the Charles Johnson has can’t be all bad – even if he is making a bigger fool out of himself these days. Five years ago, the talented creator of the Little Green Footballs blog and “co-founder” of Pajamas Media (a top-notch web magazine) went toe-to-toe with CBS News and not only took down Dan Rather, but also won a great deal of respect for on-line journalism in the process…

Then things got weird. Really weird.

What happened to the nearly 60-year-old Johnson after hitting his high-water mark is anyone’s guess. Did success go to his head, or was he really that… um... well-grounded to begin with?

The "STFU" attitude of the Left has crept to the pseudo-Right and a nut by any other political designation is still a nut.

For achingly exquisite thoughts about not shutting up, may I suggest Cobb?

Don't disturb the calm over there, just go read. Awesome.

It must be tough to think you are hot sh*t and be nothing but a cold, dry turd.

I don’t follow LGF, but I do gather from other’s comments that it has gone off the rails.

I used to post there occasionally. I got banned after daring to disagree with Johnson. My opinion was that an excessive insistence on purity among allies was counter-productive, during one of Johnson's rants about the European anti-Jihad alliance.

He spends a large amount of time ranting about supposed neo-Nazis in the anti-Jihad movement, when he isn't ranting about Christians and Creationists.

He's very interesting. Complex, real, and undefined. And courageous. Layers, man.

That the roman title of “Dictator” has become a slur in the modern age shows historic ignorance.

The Roman republic, rather than having a hereditary “King” (a word hateful to a Roman's ear), elected two “Consuls” for a limited period to rule alongside the “Senate”.

During times of strife they would elect a “Dictator” to rule absolutely for a limited period of time.

Unlike the modern usage of the word, the Roman “Dictator” was an ELECTED position, and for a limited duration. Unlike the military rulers who appoint THEMSELVES “Dictator for life” nowadays.

Cincinnatus was the IDEAL Dictator. He took power when Rome was threatened, crushed the threat, then resigned his power and went back to his farm.

Our founders were so enamored of the Cincinnatus ideal that many formed the society of Cincinnatus, and the city of Cincinnati was named for this hero of Republican governance.

Sounds about right. I read about food ol’ Cincci-probably before most of you were a gleam in a parent’s eye. Quite an admirable fellow !

There is, however, little to admire when Charles Johnson-who has labored long and hard “in the trenches”- is back-stabbed because he will not join in singing the praises of some Euro-fascist - and has (Saints preserve us !) a differing view of Creationism.

There is also little to admire in the “Me Too” chorus.

What part of disagreeing with his sudden change in focus constitutes "back-stabbing"?

I still think -- despite what Janet Napolitano says -- that jihadists are a greater threat to the world than Creationists.

Creationists don't verbally threaten Israel with nuclear extinction, for example; nor the US.

And why do I mention Israel in particular? Doesn't that prove I'm a religious nut or something. Well, no. When was the last time you heard a tinhorn dictator threatening to nuke, say, Lichtenstein or Iceland?

Cheers!

This is about his rejection of Geert Wilders - which - to me seems to have been done with regret. Wilders is anti-jihad but typical EURO : facism lite.
