Red Tail Escorts Air Force One Over Lady Liberty & Ground Zero
Perfunction ^ | April 28, 2009 | Mustang 0302

Commenter Mustang 0302 offers the most interesting theory of the day over at Just One Minute:

Connecting some dots, here.

At least one of the escorting F-16s was from the Alabama ANG, Red Tail and all.

Could this photo op mission have any particular connection to A NEW MOVIE due out this year?

Could that connection explain the WHMO's eagerness to get some current glamour shots of BHO's A/C, escorted by the descendants of the Tuskegee Airmen, while flathatting over "the target formerly known as Ground Zero"?

Just imagine the powerful, beautiful imagery of these aircraft during this mission, accompanied by a stirring soundtrack, playing over the closing credits, or released as publicity stills or fundraising fodder - "Yes, America, sleep well...BHO's got you covered."

Well, minus the terrified, fleeing citizens on the ground, of course. Ooops. Caldera, you take this one.

"Mission Accomplished", indeed.

Naw, I'll bet I'm wrong. Coincidences, all...surely.

Red Tail

The *Red Tail* is clearly depicted in NY Post photos

Interesting theory indeed.

Its not a matter of why it was done. Its a matter of how it was done. It was stupid planning on someones part.

That’s it!

Were this anybody else, I’d say it was preposterous, but this dovetails too perfectly with what we’ve seen these past few months. Yes. It is all for the closing credits of the upcoming Tuskeegee Airmen movie. I’d be happy to put money on it (if I had any money).

The only question is why insufficient notice was given. All it would have taken was public announcement in the local papers, radio and TV the day before and the whole thing would have been a thrilling, rather than terrifying spectacle.

it would be a security risk to annouce that far in advance

I think it is very ironic. The people of that city have steadfastly remained oblivious to the consequences of not supporting the War On Terror. In fact, they have steadfastly supported its deniers. For them to be suddenly shaken back to September 11, 2001 in the wake of just electing an Islamic, non-citizen President is karma incarnate. Screw them. I don’t care how ‘scared’ they got.

I opined yesterday in #10.

Okay, JimSEA actually beat me to the "future movie" take in #7 by less than a minute, but it smells like Spike Lee to me. ;-)

yup

it was Bushes fault

but believe it now, it the PRES’s fault, your fearless leader- the chosen one- who can make no mistakes

But we should overlook it as one of many already committed which have far greater impact on the security and integrity of America.

Since there is no longer a “War on Terror” it was the Dear Leaders FU to America.

Just the Dear Leaders way of scratching his check with his middle finger.

Yes, but nobody but the flight crew was on board.

I heard that there might have been others onboard besides just the crew, like Dear Leader flunkies who might not ever get a chance to fly aboard AirForce 1.

even with no crew, taking down Air Force one (I know it is only called that when TOTUS is on board) is too great a target

I’m not even sure what to think if this was indeed support for a private, commercial movie venture about the first Black fighter group that ends with a Tuskegee a/c escorting the first Black president...

Given this president, I think it’s a poke in the eye to the Tuskegee legacy. Those men were absolute heroes. I’ve had the opportunity to chat with (Dr.) Roscoe Brown - all of the squadrons in the 340th Flying Training Group are Tuskegee legacy squadrons and I had the privilege of being around when they were reconstituted - and he and the other men faced challenges so much greater than the current occupant that it’s shameful to try to draw a comparison.

Colonel, USAFR

I would have no problem at all with AF-1 being used in a movie about the Tuskeegee Airmen. These men were heroes and deserve a honorable tribute.

The problem here is incompetent planning.

AF-1 is a symbol of this country, regardless of who is on the plane. The World Trade Center was targeted not because of who was in it, but because it was a symbol.

I don't mean to denigrate the real suffering that occurred. However, in the years since, this country has lost more soldiers than lost there protecting that city and others from a similar fate. What I've seen since is bickering amongst 'connected' survivors about memorials, scrambling for compensation, and a general contempt for the administration that vowed to not ever let that happen again. It truly is sad.

For the residents of the city to now become concerned in the wake of what they've done since boggles the mind.
