DailyKos Kook Attacks Heroic Capt. Phillips
American Spectator ^ | April 13, 2009 | Matthew Vadum

Posted on 04/13/2009 9:44:31 AM PDT by vadum

You have to wonder what runs through the minds of some of the kooks at DailyKos.

Amazingly, one America-hating Kossack who goes by the handle "KLS" actually denounced rescued Maersk Alabama Captain Richard Phillips for "recklessly put[ting] himself, the crew, and the Navy Seals at unnecessary risk." In a piece that was spotlighted at RealClearPolitics, KLS wrote:

The pirates' modus operandi is that they hold the crew, ship, and cargo harmlessly until a lot of money is paid to them.  Phillips "heroic" actions put his crew and himself at risk.  If he'd done nothing except acquiesce to the pirates' demands, there would have been no risk, just possible discomfort until the extortion money was paid.  Instead he put himself and the Seals at grave risk.

I applaud the crew, the Seals, and the military chain of command for their actions.  I think Phillips was in error--if not a grandstander, then greatly misguided.  [...]

The actual result is that Maersk, the shipowner, saved a lot of money that would have been lost with the ship inactive and off charter while it sat idle in a pirate port.  Is this worth the deadly risk to the crew and the Seals?  Not to me.

Of course KLS assumes that (i) he or she knows the standing orders that apply to the Maersk Alabama (ii) the pirates were honorable fair play-loving chaps who would not have harmed Phillips (iii) the ransom would have been paid, and (iv) with the ransom paid the pirates would have actually let Phillips go.

As Gateway Pundit notes, "Only on the left are heroes like Captain Phillips, who put his life in danger for the freedom of his men, called grandstanders." [...]

“Daily kos posters and Somali pirates.... Anti American brothers in arms. “

I have no trouble imagining Daily Kos kids and Somali pirates with their arms around each other.

And what about that Cowboy Unilateralism use disproportional force against those eco-warriors!

What? You haven't heard that those pirates, err unathorized cargo confiscaters were seeking ransom, err enviromental cleanup funds for all the toxic dumping off their shore.

I am glad to see they praised the SEALs. I was expecting a total UnAmerican post. He just has issues with the civilian Captain for some reason.

It's amazing how you can tell when someone has no idea what they are talking about.

Exactly...this moonbat has hatred of his country so ingrained in psyche, that logic, reason, and reality take second place to confirmation of his/her beliefs.

It will always be AmeriKa’s fault. Even if we aren't the aggressor, we “provoked” the aggressor.

If I viewed AmeriKa as a moonbat does. I would kill myself for the good of my country.

And of course the holding of many hostages would not require more of a ransom demand than merely one hostage. oh no. The pirates would have casually held them all, gotten millions of ransom without threats, and easily have left the ship with no trouble.

My 4 year old gs has better reasoning capabilities than that.

You have to remember, according to the left, pirates only carry guns for show they don't really mean to use them. They only shot at the Naval craft the other day because they were testing their ammo to see if it was still good, it had been in the magazines so long they were afraid it was corroded. Also, their threats to kill the Captain if their demands were not made were just playful kidding. These are really nice people who have been forced to turn to piracy because, well, because they really like lots and lots of money and that is the only way they know how to get it!

Lefties have no brains, they think because blue birds fly over the rainbow, they can to if they just wish hard enough.

Typical liberal response to any kind of aggression. Curl up in a ball and blubber pathetically until the bad man has had his fill and goes away.

Wouldn't you love to have one of these metrosexuals taking care of your daughter and grandchildren?

The Seals were at risk when they did the night jump with the RIB to get to the Bainbrdige.

KLS is one of those people who would join the military and then express outrage and shock when he was sent into battle.
