The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phrase -- has been codified at the Pentagon. Reports that the phrase was being retired have been circulating for some time amongst senior administration officials, and this morning speechwriters and other staff were notified via this e-mail to use "Overseas Contingency Operation" instead.

Gaffney Jr (SNIPPET: "President Obama's stewardship of the national security portfolio to date amounts to a wrecking operation, a set of policies he must understand will not only weaken the United States but embolden our foes.") “Contingency Operation”??
Sounds threatening.
How about “Doing Something”?
As in “Doing Something Overseas”?
But “Overseas” sounds too imperialistic.
So “Doing Something Somewhere”?
But “Doing” thing sounds too war-like.
So “Contemplating Something Somewhere”.
There, that’s the new Zer0 foreign policy.
LOL
Rebranding of the War....err, Defense Establishment. Happens all the time new package - same product.
Bin Laden won :-(
This was NOT the Pentagon’s decision, it was the Obama administration relayed to the Pentagon via OMB (Office of Management and Budget).
What about the threat of terror over HERE?
definition -
Contingency: 1)An event that may occur but that is not likely or intended; a possibility; 2)The condition of being dependent on chance; uncertainty.
That describes the Obama Administration’s thinking right there. Instead of realizing that a terrorist attack against us either overseas or on home turf is definitely going to happen, they think we’re fighting and dying for something that isn’t likely.
Yep. Them Muzzies will be dancin in the streets.
(DOD) A military operation that is either designated by the Secretary of Defense as a contingency operation or becomes a contingency operation as a matter of law (10 United States code (USC) 101[a][13]). It is a military operation that: a. is designated by the Secretary of Defense as an operation in which members of the Armed Forces are or may become involved in military actions, operations, or hostilities against an enemy of the United States or against an opposing force; or b. is created by definition of law. Under 10 USC 101 (a)(13)(B), a contingency operation exists if a military operation results in the (1) callup to (or retention on) active duty of members of the uniformed Services under certain enumerated statutes (10 USC Sections 688, 12301(a), 12302, 12304, 12305, 12406, or 331-335); and (2) the callup to (or retention on) active duty of members of the uniformed Services under other (non-enumerated) statutes during war or national emergency declared by the President or Congress.
Oh brother. These dopey dems wouldn’t say poop if they had a mouthful, would they?
and your point is?
Simple. Your definition is wrong.
The Korean War was an “Armed Expedition” but at least we won.
How do you win an overseas contingency operation?
He could send his youth movement to infest them with crime!
ah, but he needs them to do that in Connecticut
How long before it becomes something like “Brotherly Love Accomodations”?
(Hell, I don’t know what that means either, but it sounds good.)
The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phraseGood.
If we were in a Global War, we'd be fighting from the Middle East to the Horn of Africa to Tibet and even Chechnya helping our Russian ally, against 'Global Terrorists'. And we would need an Army of 20,000,000.
But we weren't, so there wasn't.
Even WWII wasn't a 'Global War'. In our own backyard, from Mexico to the tip of South America - all were neutral. (Panama Canal Zone doesn't count)
