Obama's 'Punch Drunk' Interview His Marie Antoinette Moment
Start Thinking Right ^ | March 24, 2009 | Michael Eden

I call it Barack Obama's "Marie Antoinette moment."

Via Gateway Pundit:

Ouch!... 60 Minutes Reporter Asks Giggly Obama: "Are You Punch-Drunk?"

Steve Kroft from "60 Minutes" tore into a giggly Barack Obama during their interview that will air tonight. The Pro-Obama reporter asks the giggling president, "Are you punch-drunk?"

Ouch! punch-drunk- suffering cerebral injury usually from many minute brain hemorrhages that is a result of repeated head blows received in boxing and is typically marked by mental confusion, incoordination, and slurred speech

The Politico reported, via Free Republic:

President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, touching off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.”

His remarks came in a “60 Minutes” interview in which he was pressed by an incredulous Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy.

“You're sitting here. And you're— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, "I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money—” How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asks at one point.

“Are you punch drunk?” Kroft says.

“No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Obama says, with a laugh.

Maybe The New York Post is right. Maybe the Golden Boy is cracking up?

I can't help but think back to the "terrible" interview that Sarah Palin had with Katie Couric. Sarah Palin's son Track departed for Iraq earlier the same day as the interview with Katie Couric. Was it fair to destroy her for not having her A-game during a day when she should clearly be forgiven for being distracted?

And yet even Katie Couric didn't have to ask Sarah Palin if she was "punch drunk." Nor did she giggle like an idiot while being asked questions about the plunging economy and the suffering it was causing the American people.

At least the bad economy hasn't distracted from the cocktail parties that the Obamas are hosting at the White House every Wednesday night for connected liberals. Michlle Malkin notes that "this party atmosphere sends the wrong message."

Well, only if you think the president literally giggling over the terrible economy is "the wrong message." I guess it's kind of like that whole "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is," things.

“Are you punch-drunk?” Kroft said.

I finally heard a recording of Obama's giggling, tittering answers. He wasn't punch drunk. I think he was just stoned. Or something worse.

Just think. You're the president of the United States of America. It is the supreme elected office in the world. It carries such authority and requires such responsibility that you'd think the office holder would be concerned when appearing on television to manifest a certain degree of sobriety. Instead he's giggling and doing a completely stoner tee-hee thing. If he's not pharmacologically-impaired, then he's lacking in the ability even to know how he ought to look as POTUS, much less act. As my dad used to say to my little sister, "Act like a lady, even though you're not."

It's becoming increasingly clear that Barry can't even act like a president.

Sorry, but I don’t think Obama IS in control of America. I think he’s barely in control of himself. He is clearly running the 21st Century version of Your Amateur Hour.

It’s a shame that some self-proclaimed conservatives have turned on Rush Limbaugh to bash him. But he is one of many who have not given up on our country. In fact, he believes the American electorate is intelligent. He doesn’t believe we’re stupid. Seems to me that that those who are giving up our country are afraid to fight Obama, funny-looking ears and all. Or fight Rahm what’s-his-name. I vote for continuing to stand up to Obama and not whimper off and lie behind the piano.

When I wrote "in control of America" I meant from his viewpoint based on all that's been fast-tracked. I was not saying it's an established fact. But we are on a very slippery slope, and many in our congress don't realize just how fraught with danger some of this legislation is.

Ditto (or should I say, Dittohead?).

I think we should fight Obama with everything we’ve got, and work night and day to show him for the dangerous disaster he is.

My “moment” was when I first heard about the Jeremiah Wright tapes, and found out that Obama had been going to that evil scumbag’s church for 23 years. I knew what Obama was right then.

Why don't we just put the Fed in the Oval Office - cuts out the annoying middle man, the Prom King.

While we're at it, why don't we cut out the middle man, the middle class, which stands in the way of total control and government dependency.

Ugh, and that Constitution - outdated; sovereignty - we've evolved past that, haven't we?

I'm armed. Are you armed? Is the next person armed? Being armed is one thing. Being coordinated is another. Many citizens of Germany were armed. To be so cavalier about what is taking place is a rather myopic attitude, my friend.

I've got to quibble with ONE little bit of what you're saying - and I doubt you'll disagree. Rush thinks that the electorate IS stupid and getting stupider all the time. But he trusts the intelligence of conservatives - especially those who make up his audience - and he is an optimist who believes the worm will turn for us. And you - and Rush - are right on about the need to take Obama on and bring him down. Just like the liberals did with Bush.

Sarcasm back on:

And let’s not forget liberty. It used to be worth dying for. Priceless. But the market hasn’t placed a whole lot of value on it as of late.

Now a lot of people would gladly trade it in on “free” socialized health care and a couple other knick knacks.

Of course, few people know that Obama wants to give illegal aliens their cat scans. When all the people who have been sucking off the system start getting all these benefits, there won’t be anything left for the people who have been paying for them all this time.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Barry can't even act like a president.

The whole world sees this. The Russians, Chinese and other enemies of the USA are watching this clown and taking advantage of this. The left hated W and his father but at least they acted Presidential. Once again Obama has brought shame to the USA. I remember his first week in office, when he "apologized" to the Europeans for the "buy America clause" in his porkulus. I remember thinking "This is not good. This is weakness." Then the following week he apologized to Feintein. Also the time within the first two weeks where he sat down and said "I screwed up!" or something to that effect. What a weak and spineless President we have now. No wonder the Russians are going to park their ships in Cuba and Venezuela. What is the USA going to do? Nothing.

Most people hear the name “Neville Chamberlain” and they just see a spineless weakling. Not so. On domestic policy he was ruthless and incredibly calculating.

But he (apparently) didn’t give much of a damn about international affairs. Like many liberals, he basically thought that nothing bad would ever happen, and his country could never be defeated.

He completely underestimated Hitler and the threat that the Nazis posed. And refused to do anything that might change the status quo.

I view Obama as a latter day Chamberlain. In his own way, he is a smart guy. But he has a terribly flawed worldview, which he is determined to implement regardless of any opposition.

It will be a disaster, but I doubt if he would admit it even if we go into a depression that dwarfed the Great one. He’d claim that he inherited it and in spite of all his brilliant leadership, he just couldn’t pull it out.

As for foreign affairs, he will be a complete and total disaster. Like Chamberlain, he doesn’t understand the nature of evil (being amoral himself, he doesn’t understand either good OR evil), and refuses to understand that our enemies are bad people who want to murder us (he prefers to believe that WE’RE the ones who are in the wrong, and he can reason with our enemies and make them understand things his way).

On both fronts, disaster awaits us under this president.

Remember how some are saying he’s got that Narcissistic Personality Disorder? OF COURSE HE’S LAUGHING . . . ALL THE WAY TO THE BANKRUPTCY OF THE USofA!!!

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/narcissistic-personality-disorder/DS00652
Definition
By Mayo Clinic staff

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. They believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Narcissistic personality disorder is one of several types of personality disorders. Personality disorders are conditions in which people have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in relationships and in other areas of their life, such as work or school. In particular, narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, in the same category as histrionic, antisocial and borderline personality disorders. Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered around psychotherapy.

Diagnostic Features:

Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, need for admiration, extreme self-involvement, and lack of empathy for others. Individuals with this disorder are usually arrogantly self-assured and confident. They expect to be noticed as superior. Many highly successful individuals might be considered narcissistic. However, this disorder is only diagnosed when these behaviors become persistent and very disabling or distressing.

Complications:

Vulnerability in self-esteem makes individuals with this disorder very sensitive to criticism or defeat. Although they may not show it outwardly, criticism may haunt these individuals these individuals and may leave them feeling humiliated, degraded, hollow, and empty. They may react with disdain, rage, or defiant counterattack. Their social life is often impaired due to problems derived from entitlement, the need for admiration, and the relative disregard for the sensitivities of others. Though their excessive ambition and confidence may lead to high achievement; performance may be disrupted due to intolerance of criticism or defeat. Sometimes vocational functioning can be very low, reflecting an unwillingness to take a risk in competitive or other situations in which defeat is possible. Individuals with this disorder have special difficulties adjusting to growing old and losing their former ?superiority?.

Comorbidity:

In this disorder, sustained feelings of shame or humiliation and the attendant self-criticism may be associated with social withdrawal, depressed mood, and Dysthymic or Major Depressive Disorder. In contrast, sustained periods of grandiosity may be associated with a hypomanic mood. Anorexia Nervosa, Substance-Related Disorders (especially related to cocaine), and other Personality Disorders (especially Histrionic, Borderline, Antisocial, and Paranoid) frequently co-occur with this disorder.
