Why Obama's "Last Eight Years" Smear Is Such A LIE
Start Thinking Right ^ | March 11, 2009 | Michael Eden

Posted on 03/11/2009 1:59:33 PM PDT by Michael Eden

One of the catchphrases I continue to hear are the talking points blaming everything that is bad or can be portrayed as bad on "the last eight years."

Obama has talked often about "hope" and "change" and "transcending the tired politics of the past." But that's all it ever was: talk. In reality, he has pushed the blame-game of politics of personal destruction to a whole new level. You never heard President Bush blame 9/11 on Clinton, or talk about inheriting "failed policies" that allowed 9/11. Not once. You never heard George Bush single out media critics by name for person attack. Never. But Obama has routinely done such things, and more.

Obama has said:

Another 600,000 jobs were lost in January. We've now lost more than 3.6 million jobs since this recession began.

In the midst of our greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, the American people were hoping that Congress would begin to confront the great challenges we face. That was, after all, what last November's election was all about...

Let's be clear: We can't expect relief from the tired old theories that, in eight short years, doubled the national debt, threw our economy into a tailspin, and led us into this mess in the first place. We can't rely on a losing formula that offers only tax cuts as the answer to all our problems while ignoring our fundamental economic challenges – the crushing cost of health care or the inadequate state of so many schools; our addiction to foreign oil or our crumbling roads, bridges, and levees.

First of all, Obama failed to mention that FULLY HALF of those 3.6 million jobs lost occurred since he was elected president and began to explain his economic agenda while the market tanked around him after virtually every word he or his cabinet officials said.

But let's examine some of his points: President Obama is blaming the economic catastrophe on the "losing formula" of "the last eight years" because Bush "ignored" "the crushing cost of health care," and "the inadequate state of so many schools," and for failing to impose a green agenda.

Bush did - or didn't do - all that? Really?

Let's correct the record from the outright flagrant lies Obama is telling the poor, huddling, tired, and ignorant masses. First of all, we all remember that "Hillary Care" - the socialized medicine plan of the Clinton years - failed horribly. There WAS no version of the socialized medicine that Barack Obama now seeks to impose throughout the eight years of the Clinton presidency. So Obama is not merely wrong for blaming Bush and the "last eight years," he is an outright liar.

Secondly, Obama blames Bush creating the economic catastrophe for not having imposed a green agenda and relying on oil. Again, an outright lie. The US Senate voted 95-0 to NOT ratify the Kyoto environmentalist agenda while Bill Clinton was president. We weren't imposing all the radical environmental agenda on the nation when Clinton was president, so why single out Bush? President Clinton was no more "green" than Bush when the rubber actually met the road. So blaming lack of a green agenda on Bush's "last eight years" is simple blatant demagoguery of the very worst kind.

And furthermore, even Obama's own supporters such as Warren Buffet actually believe that Obama's "energy solutions" will HURT and NOT HELP the economy:

BUFFETT: Well, yeah. As you know, that hasn't been enacted yet or anything. But it is part of the budget that was put out the other day that--giving effect to it. Anything you put in that effectively taxes carbon emissions is--somebody's going to bear the brunt of it. In the case of a regulated utility, the utility customers are going to pay for it. I mean, it's going to become, in effect, a tax...
At the end of that particular discussion, Buffet's interviewer said, "Yeah. I'm going to take that as against cap and trade." And Buffet did not disagree in the slightest.

So don't blame Bush for messing up the economy due to lack of "green agenda." If anything, start blaming Obama NOW for the economic disaster that is coming due to HIS green agenda.

And schools? Hello? Let me just say four words: "No Child Left Behind." Federal spending increased from $42.2 billion in 2001 to $54.4 billion in 2007. With all due respects to Obama's lies, President Bush increased education spending from Clinton levels. You can't blame Bush for "the inadequate state of our schools" without blaming Clinton even more.

A point not made in this specific quip, but made literally thousands of times by Obama and other liberal smear merchants is the claim that Bush's "failure to regulate" created the climate of the economic collapse. Wrong. Flat out, stop-lying-your-weasel-ass-off wrong.

First of all, even President CLINTON blamed Democrats for that failure:

Bill Clinton on Thursday told ABC’s Chris Cuomo that Democrats for years have been “resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”
So again, it's a demonic lie of the devil straight out of the flaming fiery pits of hell to blame Bush or Republicans for "failing to regulate."

I have an article (several, actually) that shows (and cites supporting evidence) that it was DEMOCRATS who "failed to regulate" at a time when regulation would have actually done some freaking good.

But Obama doesn't mention any of that. He doesn't blame beyond Bush because he's a bald-faced lying weasel who is pure, distilled ideologue. He doesn't mention that every smear of Bush would at least equally apply to the Clinton years if the standard were applied fairly. And he doesn't mention that we've soared beyond other economic hard times before that were arguably even worse than now without socializing our country.

Bottom line: Obama isn't "transcending"; he's degenerating. He is relying on the "old politics" of the past, the politics of blame, more than any president who has ever come before him. It's long-past time that he shut up about demonizing President Bush and start taking responsibility for his own economy. And it's long past time that he stop fearmongering the economy to impose his socialist agenda, when these things have not been necessary to our economic well-being in the past.

“But that’s all it ever was: talk”

And the sickening thing is that the people who fell for it this time will fall for the same kind of thing again and again and again.

And when a few of them finally realize they’ve been conned, there will be many many more to take their place

The author missed the biggest of the “eight years” lie: THE DEMOCRATS CONTROLLED CONGRESS FOR THE LAST TWO. And that’s when the economy started to tank.

When you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.
It's remarkable in many ways to me to watch the absolute lack of class that Obama represents in every way, and the amazement that so many Americans can't see it. Clinton was a thieving scoundrel that sold technology to the Chi Coms for campaign contributions, and started a war to take focus off his Impeachment proceedings, but even he projected some dignity. Obama is a punk Chicago thug not worthy of any public office. I was going to say Senator, but my contempt for Senators has reached new highs. Obama is playing the blame George Bush card to a tee, because that's all he has. Half of America hates Bush passionately, and yet they couldn't correctly relate a single fact about anything Bush did. Compared to the disaster that Obama is directing the country into, Bush is going to look like a genius by comparison.

My $0.02?

Generally, the market moves on future events, not current ones. If it liked what Obama was saying, then we'd be headed up (in general) not down.

But, I'm not a Democrat, or an Obama Apologist.

You’ve seen that joke where you ask, “How do you keep a moron occupied?” And hand the butt of the joke a piece of paper that asks the question, and then has “see other side” below it? And then when they turn it over, it says the same exact thing?

That’s liberals with liberal demagoguery.

We can’t persuade these people. We can only discredit and defeat them, and hope the whole country hasn’t gone to hell by the time the few people capable of reason have been persuaded that Obama is a fool.

I’ve said that in a bunch of previous articles, but yeah, you’re right: it would have worked to put it here, too.

Thanks for mentioning it.

I liked your Carville quote and googled it:

Here’s the link with a contrast story from recently:
http://deceiver.com/2009/03/11/james-carville-wants-the-president-to-succeed-sometimes/

The money quote:
Just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn’t succeed.”

I share your outrage over Obama.

For me, the crystal-clear-clarity moment was the Jeremiah Wright tapes. I couldn’t believe that people didn’t care that Zero spend 23 years in a racist anti-American church.

And the media and the public allowed Zero to use the OPPORTUNITY of having been caught in an evil church to give a moralizing speech about “race relations”

I didn’t like Clinton, but I didn’t lose my lunch over him. Obama makes me want to grab my metaphorical pitchfork and torch and go out to hunt down the monster threatening my village.

We’re at a whole different level from Clinton.

It has been assumed that this clown is lying. Lying is saying one thing when one knows the truth is elsewhere. It is becoming increasingly obvious he is incompetent. Perhaps he believes he must say something, hence he just babbles good sounding words with no intent to deceive. He has picked up the good sounding words over the years by being associated, by force of law, with intelligent people. A parrot if you please.

I think that he’s 1) arrogant, which means that he’s a fool who thinks he’s wise. He believes all kinds of nonsense, because that’s what fools do. 2) He’s bought into a warped view of the world, such that he can’t see or understand reality. And again, that’s what a fool is: someone who can’t comprehend reality.

It’s not that the man is “stupid” in the sense of having a low IQ. It’s that he is committed to a failed worldview, and understands everything in relation to that worldview.

Does he lie on a regular basis? Of course he does. But it’s the things he truly believes that make him the most dangerous president we’ve ever had - and at a time when we needed the wisest and the best in office.
