Is Rush Limbaugh the Defacto Head of the Republican Party?
today | me

Posted on 03/04/2009 12:48:19 PM PST by ignorancerunsrampant

All of this talk of Rush Limbaugh being the Boogeyman, and the defacto head of the Republican Party. It is supposed to hurt Republicans. I say that may backfire on the current Democratic leaders. You see, Bush would not come out and argue his point, debate his point, and sometimes not even defend his point. Rush will! I have been politically astute for 28 years [since I was 18 and a guy name Ronald Reagan politically picked me up]. I have had a political bend, I was a two time candidate for local office. No, I did not win, I was a conservative candidate in Illinois.

A funny thing happened yesterday evening. I was having a debate with a person last evening about politics, Obama, Democrats and at one point, out of nowhere my wife [who NEVER talks about politics] jumped into the conversation and torched this guy with a political dressing-down that even I envied.

When she was done I asked her ... "Where did that come from?"

She turned and looked at me and said ... "I have been listening to Rush Limbaugh for the last week!"

Need I say more? Now I only hope with the newly "informed" mind in my house that I still will get a chance to participate in lively political debates.

NO. Rush is the unsung hero of the conservative movement in America! The current republican party really doesn’t have a lot in common with conservatism, although it looks like the current republican party members in congress are having lots of buyer’s remorse over co-mingling with democrats to the point where they couldn’t be told apart!

Good for you and your wife. From another Illinoisan. And Rush’s challenge today to Obama shows he’s taking this to the ultimate level. Good for him.

No. Rush Limbaugh is not the head of the Republican party any more than Michael Moore is the head of the Democratic party. Rush is, however, a clear, undiluted voice, speaking powerfully in his medium (same as Moore) without adulteration by the concerns of politics. He speaks ideology without nuance, principle without the need for compromise. He is a purer, more whole embodiment of the ideas that Republican politicians want to represent, but are unable to do so due to the machinations of politics and sometimes national interest. At a time when conservatives have grown so weary of apologizing or defending Bush, he's been the drumbeat that has kept everyone rowing.

Rush is far too smart to want to lead a political party, and he's a great enough man to know that the ultimate goal of the ideology is to have every man leading himself anyway.

Sadly, for Rush and for us, yes.

But Rush has broad shoulders.

No, Rush is the leader of a movement that the Republicans are welcome to join.

Of course not. Rush would have chosen a party of conservatives, not republicans.

In a party of liliputians, Rush has emerged defacto as one of the few with the wit and the voice to speak up, and the platform to do it from.

Rush isn’t our leader, though, he’s our preacher. He doesn’t tell us anything we don’t know, he just keeps preaching from the same scriptures we all already believe in. He enjoys doing it and we enjoy letting him.

Leaders, we don’t have. Everyone thinks they want to be in politics but none of our wannabe politicians have the grit or wit for a street fight. They’re all straight-”A” kids who are used to getting ahead on merit, but they aren’t used to having to fight. When they get bullied they look for somewhere to file a complaint, or they start soul-searching looking to excise their guilt. They don’t know how to push back and they don’t know how to jump in amongst them and mix it up. And thats what we need now, someone who’s not afraid of a cage fight.

No he is not... the head of any political movement...
IMHO...

He happens to be the strongest -- and most courageous voice for restoring Constirutional principles and conservative values to the American political landscape....

And Rush may well be the most factually accurate analyst/commentator in the entire game right now...

As well as the most objective... he didnt pull any punches with Michael Steele...

The MSM print and broadcast media have opted out of the responsibility they originally embraced... reporting the facts -- and shining the light of truth into every dark corner...

WHERE ARE THE CLASSIC "WOODWARD AND BERNSTEIN" MINDSETS IN THESE DAYS??

They are working directly for the very people they SHOULD be holding accountable....

Ahhhh yes... the [moral and professional] bankruptcy of the fourth estate...

LAT, TRIB, NYT, AJC, NBC, ABC, CBS...

You are hereby DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE....

And you have this observer's permission to evaporate from the American arena of ideas ----

Without sympathy from any quarter....

You sold out...

I hope you got what you paid for...

LIVE WITH IT...

He is the defacto voice of conservatives. It just happens conservatives have no where else to land except the Republican party. If the party doesn’t wake up soon we may go elsewhere.

Rush is the Guru, the righteous leader for many of us. He speaks for us since our voice is meaningless to anyone in Washington, even our own party. Who can we look to as a leader? It is a shame but there is no one that speaks for, or represents me, and I guess Rush is as good as it gets at this time.

I've wrote letters, made calls and it was all useless. Who can challenge the destroying of our Nation at the hands of “we won the election” crowd? No One, I'm ready to fight, to take Washington back from the crooks, to hold trial on the Frank's, Reid's, etc. How does it get started? How much anger does it take? How much more abuse are we to take? When do we get feed up with the boot on the back of our necks? I'm ready, what should I do?

The left has branded the right as Limbaugh’s. Hardly. What a joke.

Statement: "Is Rush Limbaugh the Defacto Head of the Republican Party?"

Response: At this time there is not any person in the Republican party I would be willing to follow. Indeed, neither party has put forward any person with any weight. For example, while many Americans object to them: FDR, Richard Nixon, Eisenhower, Truman all had weight. Even in media disgrace Nixon was recognized as weighty in say foreign affairs. The current clown in the White House will eventually be recognized as a bad joke. If the the Republican party finds a "heavy weight" "The Divine One" will be thrown out.If Limbaugh is the de facto head until someone comes along so be it!

Question: "... I'm ready, what should I do?"

Response: Be patient, get ready. Common observation combined with common sense will tell you when it is time to take them out naked. Many people feel the same way as you do. That is why these forums are good. Many of the people currently holding office are literally nothings, they did not even belong to our former society.

Republicans have been doing a lot worse than Rush for years.

Rush is not the head of the Republican party.

Rush is the chief spokesman for Conservatism.

We are all to well aware they are not the same thing.
