Obama No. 1 American Hero, Followed by God, Gandhi, and the Guy Who Invented Velcro
Posted by Anthony Sacramone on February 23, 2009
It was an interactive poll, so an older audience was probably underrepresented.
These heroes were named spontaneously. Those surveyed were not shown or read a list of people to choose from. The Harris Poll was conducted online among a sample of 2,634 U.S. adults (aged 18 and over) by Harris Interactive® between January 12 and 19, 2009.
The Hudson River pilot scored higher than God, which will most likely end in a nasty debate over who should get credit for landing that plane.
Nota bene: the preponderance of politicians. An interesting comment on our times. The traditional religious heroes Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, and Gandhi are still in the mix. But where are all the scientists? Wheres Jonas Salk? Even Neil Armstrong has dropped off the list. Athletes, too, are fading as heroes Michael Jordan and Venus Williams failed to break into the top 23.
Just out of the running: George Goober Lindsey, Vampira, the Green Lantern, and Tommy Hunt of The Flamingos.
Question for Christians: Is it a mild form of blasphemy to throw Jesus into this mix to begin with, as if he were heroic on more or less the same human terms as
Bill Gates?
I'm sure the demographics reflective in this poll is an accurate and all encompassing representation of Americans from coast to coast, right. /s
Hero? Hero? He’s not my Hero for sure.
My Heroes are the Founding Fathers because they bequeathed to every America a level of freedom unmatched in world.
Obama is No. 1 American hero?....What exactly has Zero done to be heroic?....community organizer??
Interactive with morons.
It would have been far more accurate to state that he is the American Communists No. 1 hero.
“Believe it or not, I’m walking on air, I never thought I could feel so free-eee-eee...Flying away on a wing and a prayer...Who Could it be?”
With out a doubt. I thought Clinton was bad as President. After Obama is done with this country, Clinton will look tame by comparison.
Carter will even start looking much better as a President after the Obama Administration is finished.
I have no doubt that there are a number of Americans who get the vapors at the mere mention of Obama’s name. I am just filled with disgust when his name is brought up.
Who’d they poll, ACORN & CPUSA?
First of all, the only poll I trust is my fly rod.
The outcome of these polls depends on where and to whom these are being given.
Alright, let’s keep this thread clean, lads.
Polling Harlem again I see
Or inner city Philadelphia? Or inner city Manhattan at a cocktail party? Or inner city DC - at another cocktail party? Or the red carpet last night in La-La land? Who needs these stinkin’ polls...
Could some of you trolls do me a favor... Please, just make a list for me of exactly what this man has accomplished.
Because quite honestly, except for running roughshot over article II, section I (Paragraph 5) of The Constitution, and starting our great republic down the road to socialism and financial collapse, I can’t think of a thing he’s done that would warrant hero status?
Sure as hell didn’t poll me!
You wouldn’t, by chance, be accusing me of being a troll now, would you?
Touché. Point well taken.
It was an interactive poll, so an older audience was probably underrepresented. Why would they go to the trouble to print that unless the poll was for under 25 year olds?.
John Lennon proclaimed that the Beatles had become bigger than God and we all know how that worked out for him.
