Holy Cow: The New Yorker compares Obama to Gandhi

(You've got to see the image of Ghandi Obamaized, or is it Obama Ghandized?)

In a February 23 articled titled “Partisanship, by the bye,” The New Yorker compares President Obama to Mahatma Gandhi.

“Fifty years ago,” the New Yorker said, “the civil-rights movement understood that nonviolence can be an effective weapon even if–or especially if–the other side refuses to follow suit. Obama has a similarly tough-minded understanding of the political uses of bipartisanship, which, even if it fails as a tactic for compromise, can succeed as a tonal strategy: once the other side makes itself appear intransigently, destructively partisan, the game is half won. Obama is learning to throw the ball harder. But it’s not Rovian hardball he’s playing. More like Gandhian hardball.”

We’re not even sure what the hell that means, because the article is written in that smarmy, pseudo-intellectual style meant to impress the reader with the writer’s intellect more than the substance of the article itself.

But to tell you the truth, we also think Obama’s a lot like Gandhi. After all, both of their fathers had multiple wives. Both of them were “community organizers.” Both were attorneys. And both look so damn sexy with their shirts off.

0bama should take a serious look at this Gandhi quote...

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." — Mahatma Gandhi

I didn't know that Gandhi was a greedy, narcissistic, traitorous, ignorant mozlim bent on the destruction of America's society, culture, and financial system. Color me shocked, SHOCKED!

The libs and their LSM enablers are getting desperate. They know Obama is sinking, and taking the party with him.

They’re throwing everything they can think of against the wall, in hopes of something -anything - sticking.

And all they’re getting to stick, is the stuff that comes out of the rear end of a bull.

Holy Cow: The New Yorker compares Obama to Gandhi

Well, they're both cynical hacks willing to sacrifice the lives of multitudes to push their political ideology.

Why do people use the spelling Ghandi instead of Gandhi.

Any particular reason?

Illiteracy?

"Dh" is a rare combination in English. We know "gh" from "laugh," "rough," "cough," and the famous "ghoti," so it's pretty natural to mistake "dh" for "gh." I did myself when I tried to google the article.

Hendrik Hertzberg is a twit, a prat, an ass, a dork (and not a particularly loveable one), a former speech writer for Jimmy Carter, who went to college with Wallace Shawn, the legendary William Shawn's son. He's done his best to destroy the magazine.

Still, when I saw this posted I thought it referred to an extended comparison, something substantial to pick apart and parse. A passing reference to Obama's tactics as Gandhian, however silly or wrong headed, really isn't a big deal. It's what one expects from the New Yorker nowadays.
