As they gloat over George W Bush ranking 36th they ignore Harry S Truman who ranked 5th. Truman had lower approval ratings that W when he left the White House.

From another article:

"Jimmy Carter, interestingly went down -- from 22 to 25."

From this I conclude that the rankings are complete nonsense. Jimmy Carter was the worst President in the history of the Universe and any survey that says otherwise cannot be trusted.

Any list that puts Reagan at 10th is clearly not based on facts.

Washington is numero uno, The Indispensible Man according to Flexner. Past is prologue. Lincoln rightly deserves praise for preserving the Union, but there would have been no Union to preserve without Washington. Two Washington quotes: “Being prepared for war is the most effectual method of maintaining the peace.” And: “People must learn to distinguish between oppression and the necessary exericise of lawful authority, to distinguish the spirit of liberty from that of licentiousness.” Wise man. I don’t think he’d recognize the sheer monstrousness of our Republic today. Nor would Jefferson. Both were against mob rule, which is precisely what we have now. Our current leaders are the most intellectually deficient in history. Or according to Mencken, our current government is the “worship of jackals by jackasses.”

It would be interesting to see this list every year and how they ranked the current presidents. You think a historian should have a better long term perspective.

If they’re ranking 42 presidents, Carter should be 43rd.

I think those so called historians are more political than scientific...There poll makes no sense historically whatsoever.

Coolidge was pretty good. Peace, low unemployment , low inflation and he followed the constitution. Historians pass him up because he was unexciting. I put Taft near the bottom because he started the ball rolling on the income tax. That cancerous amendment is killing this nation.

Who in the H*** are these “presidential historians”? And what do they know anyway. They crap out a pile of words and demand them “history”. Woodrow Wilson was an indirect cause of WWI and WWII. LBJ was a swine. JFK was a bumbler with a loose zipper. Carter was a clown. FDR was a Socialist who extended the Depression. I could go on. Historians my a**.
