The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American single-seat, twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic for the United States Air Force to provide close air support (CAS) of ground forces by attacking tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets, with a limited air interdiction capability. It is the first U.S. Air Force aircraft designed exclusively for close air support.
The A-10's official name comes from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of World War II, a fighter that was particularly effective at close air support. However, the A-10 is more commonly known by its nickname "Warthog" or simply "Hog". As a secondary mission, it provides airborne forward air control, guiding other aircraft against ground targets. A-10s used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.

Good news indeed! But Obambi will probably put a halt to this wanton destruction of the (in Helen Thomas’s words) “so called terrorists”
The panty-waist has already delayed the “surge” he was going to send into Afghanistan.
They fly over the Lake in pairs all the time. Sometimes two pairs...
“PIGS IN SPAAAAAAACE!!!”
(BOOM!)
Hey, this must be reeeeally offensive to islamomuzzies, getting the $#%& bombed out of them by an American plane named for a pig species.
Death from the sky bump. Wasn’t there a move before to decommission the Warthog?
Mind if we come in?
They are out of the NG in Ft Smith. During good weather I see them almost daily.
Sweet. Couldn’t believe the front of the building still survived though.
I was with the 35 TFW Flying Tigers when they transitioned from the A-7 to the A-10. It was a very impressive attack aircraft.
They are beautiful machines. I hear they can take a lot of damage and still keep going.

When I was at England AFB the Deputy Wing Commander was flying one and the gun malfunctioned and blew the nose of the jet off. He flew it back to base and landed it with the nose gone. They redesigned the gun gas purge ducts on the GAU-8 after that.
I saw one in Desert Storm that was hit by a SAM and had one of the tails blown off and a large hole in the wing. He also made it back home.
Re: decommission the warthog?
Yes, I had a friend in San Antonio who worked for one of the subcontractors on the warthog back in the 80s. They were shutting down production and the plan was to mothball the A10s or scrap them.
They’d never been tested in combat until the First Gulf War with the Highway of death proved their worth.
Does anyone remember the female USAF pilot in Saudi Arabia
who sued the DOD over the policy about female dress in Islamic countries?
She later commanded an A-10 Squadron in Afghanistan.
I can imagine what she was telling the rag heads as she lead an air strike on them.
“So you want me to wear a -——— burkha!”
