The Blue-Dog Democrats in the House have been somewhat disenchanted with the Democrat leadership, and have been wanting to flex their muscles. They realize that they are in districts that could go Republican in 2010, and may be the key to defeating the stimulus package. Today, a letter signed by 49 Blue Dog Democrats was sent to Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, requesting that more spending be cut from the bill. The letter stated that many of the members of the Blue-Dog Coalition voted for the original bill because they were assured of cuts in the Senate and in the Conference Report.
Doing the math, there are currently 433 members of the House of Representatives (the House seats 435, but IL-5 and NY-20 are currently vacant). The Republicans hold 178 seats, with 217 needed to pass legislation. If 39 of the 49 Blue-Dogs who signed the letter to Pelosi voted with the Republicans, the bill would be defeated.

GO BLUE DOGS!
time to start working the phone and faxes. you can do a free fax with faxzero.
anyone got a list of names?
Passing any portion of this bill or revising it in another bill is a threat to our democracy. This bill has nothing to do with money or improving the economy. It’s purpose is to advance socialism plain and simple. The bill needs to be scrapped with no replacement. End of story.
nhwingut,
Absolutely, but there’s no reason we can’t take advantage of that.
Screw the blue dogs, let them eat the porkulus
ping
You mean the Blue Dogs could achieve what the RINO three couldn’t?
Exacto mundo! They own it. And they know they are screwed back home.
Monday mroning or even now we need to work the phones and faxes. Does Drudge have this up?
Is it faxzero.com?
The Blue Dogs are probably real Americans or are getting heat from real Americans. If they sent the letter TODAY ON A SATURDAY - then they are feeling the heat.
This bill is designed to DESTROY the economy.
I agree and I don’t agree. We need to stop O now. In 2010 ACORN and the Census in the WH may screw our hopes.
Attack O now and if the blue Dogs help then God bless them - they must be feeling the heat in their home districts.

But there are a handful or so missing ... my freshman Rep Kratovil (D-MD) is one and his picture/name isn't listed yet.
They are gutless but they are probably getting a lot of heat from their constituents. They are also up for election next year.
Don't hold your breath on that one. According to ACU lifetime ratings, 5 "Blue Dogs" have ratings between 0 and 10 (Obama territory) and 7 have ratings between 10 and 20 (Biden territory). That's 12 "Blue Dogs" who aren't even honest enough to call themselves liberals, but will never dare to step on Madame Peolsi's toes.
That's how the two faced double-dealers keep getting reelected. "Vote on it now. Someone else will take the fall, and we'll get reelected!"
I hate career politicians.

Toothless Blue Dogs Roll Over on Stimulus Bill
Posted on Friday, February 20, 2009 6:25:43 AM by Kaslin
WASHINGTON — The House's Blue Dog Democrats like to pretend they are the deficit tigers of Congress, determined to stop runaway spending and stamp out waste, fraud and abuse.
But when push came to shove, as it did in the pork-crammed $800 billion economic-stimulus bill, most of these tigers mewed like pussycats, voting in lock step with Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank for a bill they had not read.
One by one, they inserted their voting cards into the slot in front of their seats and charged the stimulus money to the taxpayers. The first payment will be due April 15. Brace your wallets.
“Toothless tigers is one way to describe them. They are more gums than teeth when it comes to putting a bite on deficits,” said Pete Sepp, spokesman for the National Taxpayers Union.
NTU’s “bill tally” monitoring showed that Blue Dogs propose three-quarters less spending increases than the Democrats as a whole, but the majority of Blue Dogs still vote for most of the spending bills their party brings to the floor.
We need to work to help the Repub guy running next month in a special election for Gillibrand’s seat in NY state. If he wins - it will scare the h*ll out of Dems and they will know the public is sick of Obama.
