Obama forces charges dropped against USS Cole bombing mastermind

Rahim al-Nashiri is the accused mastermind of the USS Cole bombing that killed 17 American sailors. He was one of the three al Qaeda prisoners to be water boarded. He confessed. The charges against him have been dropped because of President Obama's request that legal proceedings against Gitmo detainees be halted pending a review of the process. President Obama has directed that the Guantanamo Bay detention camp be closed within one year. I guess he will release this monster at that time. The families of the USS Cole are very angry. I agree with them. This is an outrage. They have been forced to wait too long for justice.

If President Obama ever releases this monster, he should be impeached.

Can anybody explain why George W. Bush didn’t ____________ (Insert a thousand different questions)?

Bush will go down, IMO as a worse president than his father and more.

The DonkeyRATs are going to need to reinstate the draft.

No sensible person would join the military voluntarily to serve under a president who pardons enemy combattants and prosecutes American military and civilian alike for leading efforts to keep us safe.

I did not realize that President George Bush was assigned as a prosecutor for the military tribunals.

IMHO Obama already got the award as worst president and he had only been at the helm for 3 weeks.

I just hope he is not the LAST president of the United States.

Bush set up Gitmo and the tribunals. Are you telling me that he couldn’t have asked for speedy action on the major cases? He had years available to him to get such cases done. He didn’t.

There are good and legitmate reasons for having these guys twisting in the wind, so to speak.

And probably no one thought a new “president” would come along and just let them go.

Yes, that's probably true. But the Bush administration also missed a great chance to turn the tables on the bleeding hearts who wail about the need for extending American rules of justice to the Gitmo terrorists. How so? One of the basic rules of American justice is the right to a speedy trial. If Bush had expedited the trials of a few of the major terrorists, he could have answered criticisms that the trials were being pushed too quickly by pointing out that he was simply giving the terrorist the American right to a speedy trial. A missed opportunity, in my view.

I am firmly convinced George W. Bush spent the last four years of his administration curled up on the White House couch, watching soap operas and munching pretzels.

Of course, given his pathetic bungling of the post-Iraq invasion and Katrina, I’m not so sure that was a bad thing.

Your Bush Derangement Syndrome has made you forget that Guantanamo and in fact the prisoners in general became a political cause with the left almost immediately. It took years to even get permission to try them at all; initially, the plan was for fairly speedy military tribunals, but the left didn’t like that and filed challenge after challenge. Since we have a system based on laws, all of those had to be answered first.

Then the left began on other angles (”torture,” “renditions,” etc.) and finally it wasn’t even clear how these people were going to be punished if found guilty.

If it had been up to Bush, these people would have been tried and dealt with as soon as they landed.

I don’t know where you were for the last four years. These ongoing legal battles were in the papers every day.

I don't have BDS; I have mixed feelings about him. He wasn't one of our greatest Presidents, but neither was he our worst, as the BDS people fervently believe.

I don't believe that Bush did enough in as speedy a fashion as he could have done with the Gitmo terrorists. He also didn't see to it that Iran is not going to get a nuclear weapon, as he promised on live television more than once. But he did manage to keep us free from a major terrorist attack after 9/11. We'll have to see if Obama will be able to make a similar claim after his run is done.

It didn’t help that McCain was manuevered into endorsing Obama at his own rally by a woman disguised as a mental case (I suspect at any rate)? I also have to wonder if McCain has picked up on all of Obama’s fawning gestures to the “Muslim world” lately. Thanks, John. When Sarah came on board, you had it, but you dropped the ball - and then blamed her. I wish you HAD tapped Lieberman because the result would have been the same - no worse than they were.
