Black Creek, N.C. — A German shepherd roaming a neighborhood attacked and mauled two boys near the Black Creek community in late January, Wilson County Animal Control officers said Friday.

No pix, so I cannot judge if this truly is a German Shepherd - or a Belgian (although latter is doubtful). Could be feral dogs. The "mixed breed" might also be pure, for all we know. Curious how they claim - at the end - the "mix" was "protecting" them.

I read somewhere that Shepherds seldom get destructive unless they are not properly cared for (IE... run, play, train, walk with the master on a regular basis).

There is the possibility this was a feral dog (or a long-gone stray). That would add to the “wildness”.

I have had three GSDs over the past 15 years. GSDs are great dogs, very loyal, and easily adaptable if they are treated as part of the family. They can get destructive if they are not.

Actually there is more to it than that (which I say for all dogs). Some are bad, some are not, and some could go either way depending on their “nurture”. But nature does play a role. And it concerns me that too many German Shepherd people are blind to the damage that too much emphasis on “aggression” (per se) does to the gene pool.

Both the GSD and the owner should be consigned to be shot. If you don’t control your animal as an owner you are responsible and should pay.

Why are German shepherds coming to the US. Is there a shortage of sheep in Germany, such that they can’t find employment there? Should we be concerned about a possible influx of German shepherds?

Inquiring minds want to know. This is how it starts. First a few Mexicans, then Muslims and now German shepherds. What’s next Singing Nuns, or heaven forbid FLYING NUNS?

I am reminded of the song by the Kingston Trio, “The MTA”.
