Treason University

Recently, I received an unsolicited copy of Foreign Affairs magazine, the house organ for the Council on Foreign Relations. Between page 54 and 55 of the Jan/Feb 2009 issue, this ad leapt out at me. Two women are chatting in front of the UN, with a line of flags behind them. The headline is:

"As a global citizen, to whom do I pledge allegience?"

The sub headline reads: "The traditional state-to-state mindset may be at odds with the realities of our increasingly globalized planet." The rest of the ad is about the need to create global citizens who think and act above and beyond loyalty to nation states. I don't feel like typing it all out, and I can't find this exact ad on the internet, but I did go to their website at the NYU Center for Global Affairs.

"The NYU Center for Global Affairs is a unique institution rooted in Manhattan and located astride the world's crossroads. We provide a range of exceptional educational opportunities — including a Master's degree, a professional certificate program, provocative public events, and numerous courses — all designed to help you grapple with the issues we all face as global citizens. Our diverse and motivated student body is guided by a faculty of accomplished international practitioners. Careers with a global dimension have never been more challenging, rewarding, or in demand."

Center for Global Affairs

MESSAGE FROM THE DIVISIONAL DEAN

"Dear Friends,

"Welcome to the Center for Global Affairs, one of the most exciting and dynamic global programs to emerge on the NYU landscape: a program where the latest global trends and critical issues are examined and vigorously debated in the classroom and at public events; a program where individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities come together to explore how to make our world a better and more just place; a program that embraces a world where diplomacy and global transactions occur in a 21st-century milieu comprised of state and non-state actors.

"Our mission is straightforward: to create a community of global citizens in lower Manhattan—a community of individuals capable of changing the world. Some might say this is a terribly bold aim for an academic program. Nonetheless, we would have it no other way. Our leading-edge graduate program, year-round continuing-education program, and provocative public events series combine to create an environment where everyone with an interest in global affairs can find a place to contribute and learn.

"Those who craft these programs are scholars and practitioners, individuals who have had direct experience in the global arena. Everyone at the Center is passionate, enthusiastic, and committed to our ambitious global agenda.

"I feel fortunate to be part of a team that is creating a new paradigm in global affairs education. I invite you to join us.

"Your fellow global citizen,

"Vera Jelinek , B.A., M.A., Ph.D., divisional dean and clinical associate professor, the Center for Global Affairs

The Master of Science in Global Affairs

And by enrolling for one extra semester, you'll also earn a Master of Science in Global Warming.

Or is that the same thing?

Left to right: Center for Global Affairs Divisional Dean Vera Jelinek, Gideon Rose, and Amy B. Zegart

Zegart’s stunning new book, Spying Blind: The CIA, The FBI, and the Origins of 9/11, provides a scholarly examination of the intelligence failures that preceded September 11. Prior to Spying Blind, those failures had been attributed largely to individual mistakes. Zegart’s work suggests that longstanding organizational weaknesses left unaddressed during the 1990s prevented the CIA and FBI from capitalizing on 23 opportunities to disrupt the September 11 plot.

Yep. Stunning. It only took this clucking idiot eitht years to stumble around the facts and come up with a book that blames "reform failures."

This is the same issue of former Clinton deputy attorney general Jamie Gorelick who was responsible for creating the "wall" that restricted information sharing between intelligence and law enforcement agencies prior to the September 11 attacks and that the "wall" prevented the Pentagon intelligence operation Able Danger from disclosing to the FBI or CIA the Al Qaeda connections of Atta and three other future hijackers.

Zegart? Stunning? Stunningly STUPID.

And this is what is "featured" in their global education program.

One common attribute of tyrants of every stripe throughout history is their ability to use a people's own money to enslave them.

No problemo. It will probably happen ten more times, but each correction will bump the thread at least!
