Bookmark this page for whenever you question a liberal's patriotism and he howls like like a scorched monkey. In an L.A. Times op-ed, Joel Stein leaks some Liberal state secrets.
I don't love America. That's what conservatives are always telling liberals like me. Their love, they insist, is truer, deeper and more complete. Then liberals, like all people who are accused of not loving something, stammer, get defensive and try to have sex with America even though America will then accuse us of wanting it for its body and not its soul. When America gets like that, there's no winning. But I've come to believe conservatives are right. They do love America more.

Liberals love their future ideal far more than the current actuality.
Conservatives love foundational principles and institutions built upon them.
Of course we love America more. We love it as it is.
Liberals love their vision, and hate America as it is.
Maybe?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Is Al Gore completely scientifically illiterate?
Is the Obamaloon a loon?
This is old news. Everyone knows the Leftwingtards are just a pack of sociopaths who are incapable of love and who are not to be trusted.
Liberals worship a “cosmopolitan” and internationalist ideal which says that patriotism is grubby, narrow-minded, irrational chauvinism while enlightened intellectuals are leading the way to a post-patriotic utopia.
Whether there might someday (perhaps many centuries from now) be such a utopian world of no nation-states, wars, conflicts and crises, etc., it is not the world we inhabit. In OUR world, devotion to the USA, with all of its/our faults, is far superior to any dreamy UN-loving imbecility.
Liberals DO (generally) despise patriotism because they think it represents an inferior form of humanity. They DO dream of living as though the UN respresents utopia, and to the extent that Americans don’t fall in line with the UN we are inferior.
I have lived amidst a lot of liberals, especially academics (in Cambridge, Mass. and elsewhere), and this is fundamental to what they believe. They don’t like to admit it too loudly, of course, b/c it won’t help them to win elections, so they put up a fraud candidate like the Obamanation to run a mythical campaign without espousing his real beliefs.
But few liberals are truly patriotic, if you get them to speak candidly. They view patriotism as something embarrassing. Sure there are plenty of lib politicians who parade for the 4th of July etc. but that is only b/c they know how to maintain their political “viability” ala Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
I’m conservative and I hate the US.
‘Course, I’ve been through family court. I’ve seen the beast in action.
I need to be specific. I hate the US government, which I no longer see as by and of the people.
It may be old news to us, but the libs usually deny it with spittle-flecked rage and indignation. This guy admits it.
The patriotism of a liberal is based on some idealistic picture of an America that never was, does not now exist, and given the nature of human beings, might never be. In other words, their loyalty is to a phantom, an illusion, but certainly not the America they see out their window and walk past every day.
But the rest of us have to live in a world where we make compromises, fret at our shortcomings, and proceed to patch something together every day so we can consider ourselves as having done what we are able to do - only to see it shredded by some obtuse ignoramus who scolds us for not “understanding” some arcane and personally meaningless concern of theirs.
They INVENT a series of crises, then set themselves up as “experts” to manage these crises, when the turmoil generated would simply die down on its own, or with the application of common sense that cuts through all their convoluted reasoning.
We do not need “carbon cap and trade” as a scheme to “manage” our production of carbon dioxide, for example. But in their vision of a “crisis”, carbon dioxide has been identified as a “pollutant”, and it shall kill us all. From their point of view, why is that a bad thing? Don’t they think there are way too many people on Planet Earth already?
Actually, the system of living things does a remarkable job of balancing out the various occasional overabundance or shortfall of one or another of its factors, and the system returns to equilibrium, homeostasis, with most everything fitting back into its designated niche.
Yea, it pisses off most rational people when they discover that the system rewards the most irresponsible behavior and punishes those who act responsibly. Such is the nature of the beast.
Well said!
All we really need to know about how (most if not all) liberals regard patriotism in the USA is when they use the term “flag-waving” as a sneer.
Then there was some socialist whackjob writing for “The Nation” magazine right after 9/11, who was deeply embarrassed by the desire of her teenaged daughter to place an American flag in the window of their Manhattan apartment. Yes, even in the days after 9/11, when her daughter had been within a few blocks of the WTC at the time of the attacks, it was considered so gauche and embarrassing to display the US flag that whackjob leftist had to write a whole column about the dilemma. Forget the name of that “writer” but she was ridiculous.
Ah, yes, it was the notorious Katha Pollitt who, immediately after 9/11, while living in Manhattan, still found the idea of displaying the US flag to be so nauseating to her tender liberal sensibilities. I found this quote just now in a compendium of left-wing b.s. (well worth a click of the link below) but I remember the fuss over her article at the time because it was such an incredible example of an American leftist in the heart of Manhattan still caring more about providing her daughter with anti-US propaganda than about allowing her daughter to identify with her own country:
“My daughter, who goes to Stuyvesant High School only blocks from the World Trade Center, thinks we should fly an American flag out our window. Definitely not, I say: The flag stands for jingoism and vengeance and war.” — Katha Pollitt, The Nation, October 8

ping to #14 for what liberals really think of America and patriotism....
Liberal thinking is scoring wins because of their programming (media, public schools, universities, Hollyweird), but the deprogramming can be powerful because it tells the truth.
I like this guy because he’s approachable to the most approachable in my life (teens and college kids).
