Question:
I recently was in a situation at work where a coworker made transphobic statements about a customer (out of earshot, thank God). He said things like, "That person isn't really a woman," and went on to mention how proud he was of himself for being able to "tell." What are the best ways to react to such comments? I'm a queer white woman who's out, and I wanted to engage my coworker in conversation as a peer so that our work relationship can continue to be positive, and so that we can have the kind of dialogue that eventually leads to greater understanding. At the same time, I also wanted to make it clear that what he said was unacceptable and that I won't stand for it.
Excerpt from answer:
Most people aren't bigots, sexists or homophobes--and if handled with generosity, will respond to kindly offered dialogue. A fellow Navy pilot who took the time to explain his experience as an African American as he helped me be our office's "minority officer recruiter" changed the trajectory of my life in the 1980s.
This doesn't mean that you're always going to have a "kumbaya" moment. My experience with the responses to this publication is that many people stubbornly hold onto their discriminatory views and take criticism as a personal attack, even when it's counterproductive. Take your incident, for example. Only a creep would make a comment like that--especially considering he was in a work environment with an out lesbian in his company.

Being the child of two Marines I’m usually the source of the offensive language at work, so it doesn’t bother me.
So, do members of the freemartin community go to a special clinic for an opertaion, or do they just wear the clothes? And if they are born that way, at what age do they reaize they are different than all the other little calves? Perhaps they got “recruited” by a bull?
Use the word hoplophobic every time you hear anti-gun or anti-RKBA talk. By using this valid real word you call anti_RKBA people sufferers of a mental disorder.
As for transphobic, the queer out white woman is wrong in assuming that her cow orker has a phobia about transgendered people. He may merely think it's odd, and is mystified and maybe baffled when he meets one, so comments on it (Hey, that woman is really a man!).
So the new special word is Transbaffled, as in someone wondering what it takes to drive a person to go under the knife to change genders.
Why post such crap here?

As a rancher, I say “BS.”
Freemartins are genetically female cattle that had a male twin. The testosterone from the male sterilizes the female.
They behave just like steer and don’t bother the other cattle, at all.
The transphobi guy said the type of stuff I say. Heck, I was in a topless bar back in 1974 during amateur night and this “chick” got on stage and I said to my buddies that it was a guy. They thought I was kidding.
It was a guy.
I’ve always liked girls, even before kindergarten. They are different in so many delicious ways (and I am not even talking the physical, which I didn’t discover until years later).
I guess that makes it easy for me to spot posers. ;)
FWIW, I was underage at the time and haven’t been to such a joint since 1975.

Those who are easily offended wouldn't last a day here. LOL
Sure. Like Petaphobic, bestiaphobic, menage-a-phobic. Make 'em up as you go along.....
Just because a person dislikes something doesn’t make them ‘phobic’.
If one were to take the time to study personallity disorders one would learn that almost ALL personallity disorders list ‘gender confusion’ as an aspect of the disorder.
If I recall correctly personallity disorders are at the top of the scale as far as the aberant human mental condition is concerned.
Any person who SUFFERS from gender confusion of any type has at their core some very, very serious mental problems.
Most suffer from what used to be called MPD, multiple personallity disorder.
Hitlers SS Brownshirts were reported to be homosexuals.
I hope this aids you in your journey.
In other words they are very sick.
Tranny’s are really creepy!!!!!!
Homosexuals within the mental health field redefined society's norms. As new gods, they recast the world in their own image.
“I’m a queer white woman who’s out”
who knew!?!
we always just assumed you liked having a crew-cut.

The poor little Dutch boy.
In this day and age, he'd do well never to put his finger in a dike.
There. Fixed it.
DING DING DING DING DING!!! There is MUCH truth to this. So many corporations will get just one or two flaming liberals in the wrong spot and before you know it, the whole company is a PC nightmare that thinks nothing of offending 75% of its employees or potential customers in order to appease the most insignificant splinter groups.
This is where groups like the AFA are actually starting to have some success. The boycott of McDonald's worked in a huge way. They went from one of the most rabid pro-homo stances imaginable, to a total withdrawal from the public culture war. Another big and more recent success is Costco. A campaign of e-mails and phone calls by AFA members has caused Costco to reinstitute the word "Christmas" in a big way. Heck, when you call their national customer service right now, they answer the phone, "Merry Christmas from Costco!"
We've been way too silent for way too long, and our silence for 40 years has allowed liberals to effect a coup of this society.

“Transphobic?

Why are these people so phobiaphobic?
It's about the same on an oil rig. And we have mellowed out--a lot.
