Everything we've worked for since 1980 is gone with the wind. I cringe every time hear conservative commentators say we are still a center-right nation. On the basis of what? What are they smoking? Even the Bush Administration with its $700 billion bailout along with prescription drugs and no child left behind has contributed to Europeanization and socialization of our great country. Just rename the country the United Socialist States of America--the USSA.
After two successive drubbings in the 2006 midterm election and last November, I haven't seen our numbers this low in Congress since the immediate aftermath of the Watergate Scandal. And even back then there was still a sizable bloc of conservative Democrats (mostly from the South) we could work with from time to time. This is no longer the case.
Mark my words: We are going to see this nation move to the Left in ways we haven't seen since the 1930s and 1960s. I am not not the only one who sees it this way. This morning columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote the following:
"...Obama can address his real ambition: to effect a domestic transformation as grand and ambitious as Franklin Roosevelt's"
"Transformation is his mission. Crisis provides the opportunity. The election provides him the power."
"A deepening recession creates the opportunity for federal intervention and government experimentation on a scale unssen since the New Deal."
"Obama was quite serious when he said he was going to change the world. And now he has a national crisis, a personal mandate, a pliant Congress, a desperate public--and, at his disposal, the greatest pot of money in galactic history."
"He (BHO) intends to transform America. And he has the money, the mandate, and the moxie to go for it."

This is, by far, the most realistic assessment I have heard to date. I am tired of left stream media folk claiming that BHO is a centrist because of all his Clinton retread appointments. People forget that in the first two years of the Clinton's term, he too pursued an aggressively liberal policy agenda including tax increases, stimulus projects, and national health care. The Deity-elect and the in-coming Congress are much further to the Left of this.
BHO's mentors include CPUSA member Frank Marshall Davis, racist hate spewer Rev. Wright, and terrorist bombers Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. ANYONE who thinks BHO will govern from the center is simply deluding himself. I used to worry a lot about Europe's increasing socialism and Islamization. No longer. It's my own country that's succumbing to these forces.
The American people were warned about this. There was plenty of information about Rev. Wright, Fr. Pfegler, Louis Farrakhan, Khalidi, Tony Rezko, and the cesspool of the Chicago political machine. They overlooked this because they WANT wealth redistributed, they WANT national healtcare, they WANT public works projects, they WANT socialism. They want big government bailouts. They want their debts forgiven, their mortgages off their backs. We are taking a massive holiday from responsibility.
If anyone were to have asked me back in September how to solve the mortgage crisis I would have said the following: Remove the government from the housing and mortgage markets. Privatize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Repeal the Community Reinvestment Act. But most importantly do what I tell my wife almost every week: STOP UNNECCESSAY SPENDING! There is tons and tons of porkbarrel spending, earmarks, and discretionary spending in the federal budget. Not one attempt has been made to rein it in. Imposing government spending discipline, cutting out wasteful spending we, fiscal discipline would have done far more to restore confidence in our markets, our dollar, our economy more than any bailout or stimulus program.
This entire economic mess we're in today is the direct result of excessive federal spending, loose credit standards and lack of discipline. Period.
Just as California is no longer Reagan Country we are no longer a center-right nation.
My fear since the election is that the Obama years are going to make the carter years look prosperous.
A few signs of hope out there though, I’m still stunned a place like California passed prop 8 for instance.
When people say it is a center right nation, you can go down the list of issues from social to fiscal to military, etc, and the majority typically fall into the area of center right. The majority are pro-America, suspicious of government, anti-abortion personally even if not in favor of government making it illegal. That is where the center right comes in. This is why the Clinton years ended up with a GOP majority and a triangulating President. This is also why Obama did his best impression of a moderate Republican in his speeches. That's where the voters are that are willing to switch parties from year to year. That is not to say we are not an an increasing fast slide into socialism and central planning. With this crisis, as with so many others in history, the politicians are well trained to 'be' the solution to peoples' problems.
The ongoing worsening of worldwide political correctness, which includes: the ongoing and worsening dumbing down of people all over the world, the ongoing and worsening political bias in the MSM, the ongoing and worsening political indoctrination in schools of every level all over the world, and the ongoing and worsening abuses of political power and cheating by the political left all over the world, have all contributed to the ongoing leftist political dominance that exists worldwide today and beyond.
Well said....thanks.
With a voting record to the Left of Vermont’s Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders and with pals like Ayers and Wright how could ANYONE in their right believe BHO’s impression of a moderate Republican.
Anyone doing a little due diligence would have connected the dots and figured this out. The middle name of Hussein should have been your first clue, Sherlock! (not you, ilgipper, I am referring to the voters). The fact that he was a community organizer and attended Rev. Wright’s racist church for over twenty years should have been other VERY BIG CLUES.
Even though McCain refused to discuss these issues, they weren’t concealed from the public.
If there is one thing worse than BHO, it is the TRULY MINDLESS kool aid drinkers and media enablers who elected him.
Exactly and precisely.
I disagree and say that yes, indeed, America is a center-right nation.
The problem is equating the center and the right with the Republican party, which the center and the right usually embrace only out of default, not because the Republicans advocate what the center and the right want.
In the past eight years, the Republicans took the gift of power given them by the people, and abused it horribly. It began with 9-11, when the people gave President Bush the authority to pursue and destroy our enemies *abroad*. And that’s precisely where they were located, *abroad*, not here. America fully supported the WoT, and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
But Americans were, and remain, utterly horrified at putting America into a paranoid, police state, Homeland Security nightmare, for no damn good reason. And the Republicans still haven’t gotten the message that a prison may be secure and safe, but it is still a prison. You don’t protect the people from the criminals by putting the people in there.
And that was the worst mistake. The absolute legislative orgy the Republicans put on next was just the icing on the cake.
So do the Americans want what the Democrats are pushing? Heck no. We want our country back. America doesn’t need cameras, listening devices, gigantic databases, dossiers and informants everywhere. We don’t want every single one of our Bill of Rights trampled on, just because government *can* trample on them.
Dismantle that crap. Save a fortune and leave us alone. Even the name “Homeland Security” is repulsive and reminiscent of European tyranny. A metal detector and two rent-a-cops at an airport is enough security.
The heck with pretending it’s not Muslims that are creating all the trouble as well. Racial profiling is fine, as is religious profiling.
And because the Republicans screwed up so horribly, now the Democrats have a big chance to be just as awful, but in a different direction. And center right America is going to be trampled on by them as well.
We’ve had 8 years of a RINO socialist in the WHite House, to be followed by at least 4 more. Boy...don’t we republicans nominate some real winners!
Agreed. Bush was HORRIBLE on domestic spending . Worse than drunken sailors (at least they spend their OWN money).
However, he did CUT taxes.
He is on OFFENSE on the war on terrorism.
He liberated two countries and fifty million from the evil yoke of the Infidel.
Saddam Hussein received his just reward in Bush’ s watch.
Bush maintained a strong defense and robust missile defense program.
I don’t mind the Department of Homeland Security eavesdropping on terrorists if it keeps us safe. There have been no attacks on our soil since 9/11 thanks to Bush and Cheney’s vigilence.
And I don’t think terrorists thugs are entitled to the protections of the Geneva Convention which are reserved for uniformed conventional military POWs. Waterboard those freaking bastards all you want as far as I am concerned.
History will remember Bush better than the media and their pollsters. Harry Truman had horrible poll ratings when he left office. Now he is remembered for making some pretty tough decisions.
I think I’m even more pessimistic, the sheep will be led into Great Depression II believing that socialism will save us.
Even if government involvement worsens it, they’ll believe it’s what saved them.
This exact thing happened in the first one, when we’re at the precipice, we unloaded the clown car and put’em in charge.
Americans don’t vote ideologically, they get fed up with one side and they’ll vote the other side in without regards to their ideology.
Precisely

Over 70% of Americans were opposed to the bailout, so your first point is NULL and VOID.
What we do have is a government that ignores the will of the people and do whatever the hell they want.
Case in point. Recent polls before the election said voters think we were heading in the wrong direction. The press and left said this shows the country didn’t want to move to the right it was a denouncement of Bush and his policies.
When in FACT the direction the country has been heading for the last 20 years is towards socialism.
So I maintain you are WRONG.
Most Americans oppose socialism by about 80% this by a poll that was done prior to the election.
Then how could they be so completely irresponsible to elect an obvious security threat to the most important and powerful office in the entire world?
This country has lost its freaking mind!
What WERE they thinking electing a man who served 143 working days in the Senate to this job with all of those radical associations?
CRAZY!

The answer is so simple, but I will answer.
First there is the massive voter fraud, ACORN in 21 states.
Second tens of millions of dollars from oversea donors to the One’s campaign, some estimates say 300 million dollars.
Third we gave the voters two canidates that don’t have a dime’s worth of difference between. Who can forget when McSocialist spoke to us like we are children that we had no reason to fear the O.
I haven't seen our numbers this low in Congress since the immediate aftermath of the Watergate Scandal.Heh... yeah, throwing the RINO name around helps too -- helps elect more RINOs, or better yet, Democrats. Thanks E.
“worsening of worldwide political correctness”
It is no longer PC it is outright appeasement.
After 9/11 Reuters had to explain why they called the terrorists “militants.” Now EVERYONE does it. See ALL news coverage on Mumbai.
If we don’t have the courage to call it evil, we will not have the courage to face it in battle.
Nice post, and I agree.
But I still hope that those who have been seduced by the socialist dream will quickly come to their senses. Here’s hoping that the Blagojevich corruption opens eyes.
