It's become a cause for some: to let Barack Obama keep his BlackBerry when he takes office.
What stands in the way? The primary concern has been the Presidential Records Act, which requires all presidential documents to be put in the official record.
Now, realistically, no matter what people say, it's not so much about national security as it is as making sure that if a "Watergate" happens, We The People have plenty of evidence to back it up. Ans as that's the issue, what's the problem.
We can track his cell phone calls. We can track his emails. So let him keep the BlackBerry (shoot, let him get a BlackBerry Bold or Storm if he wants).
Last night Barbara Walters had an exclusive interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama on ABC. Besides suggesting a dog for the Obamas (who doesn't nowadays?), she ask him about his beloved BlackBerry.
"One of the things that I'm going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation, the bubble that exists around the president. And I'm in the process of negotiating with the Secret Service, with lawyers, with White House staff ... to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House? Because one of the worst things I think that can happen to a president is losing touch with the struggles that people are going through every day."
After all, he has to be able to keep in touch with Oprah. Seriously, though, Obama used technology to his advantage during the election. He's going to be the first president with a laptop (though we don't know if it's going to be Windows or Mac --- I predict Windows because it's probably easier to fit into the rest of the White House IT infrastructure), so why not the first President with a BlackBerry?
Otherwise, our President may be experiencing the withdrawal shown in this video:
I think the boy needs to grow up he has not the foggist idea what this is all about plus just who will he be talking to on that thing
Might I suggest a myspace account? That would be so totally cool to be on his friends list. We could be BFFs (which I believe stands for Ben Folds Five, although I'm not entirely sure what that means).

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
I think that Obama is showing just how little he understands what he has gotten himself (and us, unfortunately) into. I think that he doesn’t have a clue what he is going to do. He certainly doesn’t know the proper protocol for a “POTUS in waiting”, just as neither Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton seem to know the proper role of a former POTUS.
Simple choice ~ withdraw now and keep his Blackberry, or decide to be voted in and give it up.
I hope that latest briefing with President Bush let him know how utterly dangerous being President really is, and that there are people out there who really do want to kill you no matter what you do or how many butts you kiss.
Hahaha.
We’ve got a teenager going to the White House. Oh, God.

Yeah, too bad those Constitution framers didn’t put an age requirement on being president. [/sarc]
Bernadine Dohrn, Hugo Chavez, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Fidel Castro, Mayor Daley, etc...
It's easy to answer. He has no idea what to do when things happen in the world, so he needs a permanent link to his advisers who will make the decision for him. Who are these advisers? Look at his cabinet picks, his campaign staff and see for yourself. He definitely knows who to call (can't vouch that he knows more than that, though.)
Does the Pope have a Blackberry?
Does Queen Elizabeth II?
Welcome to the Big Leagues, Excellency! They don’t play with gadgets and toys in the Big Leagues.
That was especially true for President Bush. And the ones that really wanted to get him were on MSNBC and the Comedy Channel (remember Jon Stewarts "snipers wanted" crap)
Good grief the guy won’t even turn over his birth certificate. Do we think he’d give up his private blackberry? Everything that applied to every president before doesn’t apply to this buffoon.
The fault is in the buffoonery of the American people. Shakespeare said it this way, “The fault, Dear Brutus, lies in ourselves. We are underlings.” The American people again cannot understand the simplest truths.
Under his policies, those struggles are going to get worse each day.
Scarlett is a filthy little girl
I love her
I have a couple of friends and clients that are hooked on these things ~ and when I say “hooked” I mean “addicted”.
As a freelance graphic designer ~ and insomniac ~ I work some odd hours, and have wrapped up some projects at 2:30 or 3 in the AM only to send work off for approval, which I expect mid-morning.
Alas, I don’t have time to shut down my computer before I get a respsonse from one of my clients. I’m like, “What gives? Do you sleep with that thing under your pillow?”
The response that I get ~ “YES. I do sleep with it under my pillow.”
My co-workers would joke about killing Bush and it really got under my skin. My husband dared me to contact the Secret Service. If I joked about killing Obama, I’d be labeled a bigot and receive non-stop scorn.
He is afraid the lifeline to his Communist handlers will be cut...
