Not sure what to make of this, but No Quarter has a source in Chicago that says that Obama and McCain will meet tomorrow to discuss the Secretary of Defense job.

Good to know. Wasn’t aware of that.

Not going to happpen. But if Mac wants to sell out his soul... go ahead. I am strongly in favor of letting the Democrats have total controll over Congress and Executive Branch, especially DepDefense. Democrats are going to FAIL big time and why should we give them an excuse to blame it on pubbies? The crucial failures of Obamao will be in Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. All falling chiefly in the SecDefs area of responsibility. If John is naive or ambitious enough to accept a cabinet post, he will get ALL the blame for Obama’s failures.
DON’T GO THERE JOHN! IT’S A FRIGGIN TRAP!!!

I think it'd be perfect too. It gets McCain away from what we most disagree with: domestic affairs. Chances are that because President Hussein is a total wimp, McCain will be forceful and shake things up(in a good way) against the liberals in the Pentagon. He could be a better version of Rumsfeld. (I'm praying for some good news. I ship off to Marine Boot Camp in Feb.)

"Why not?" Maybe because McCain is diametrically opposed to only one Obama policy and that is the way forward in Iraq. Could he honestly take the job and then the next day accept an order to pull all the troops out? He might just have to face that scenario if he did this. I don't believe it will happen.

Oh yeah, one other reason why this wouldn't make sense. If Obama has any political sense he should be pleased to leave McCain in the Senate where he can do what he does best: advance the agenda of Democrats while sabotaging the Republicans. And the best part is that when McCain does it, Obama can claim bipartison support with a straight face and McCain standing behind him on the stage nodding obediantly.
Definitely more valuable than having him in the cabinet trying to fight against cutting the DOD budget to shreds.

If McCain takes that job, in the unlikely event it's offered, his first assignment from Obama will be to cut CO2 emissions from military equipment by 65% - rendering us defenseless within a year.
....and he'd try!!!

We are ALL praying for good news! Are you going to Pendleton? My son graduated this past January from Camp Pendleton. He drives/maintains amphibious assault vehicles. When they were filming Transformers 2 recently, they did a segment where they went to the Marine Base and filmed amphibious assault vehicles being driven. If they don’t cut that section out, that will be my Marine driving it!
My other son is graduating from Ft Leonard Wood (Army)the beginning of December. His MOS is Combat Engineer. He gets to blow up things. One boy drives over things and the other one blows things up. LOL!
Anyway, know that we FReepers will be praying for you and yours. We also pray for our troops on a continuous basis. Know that we respect your decision and are proud of you.
Respectfully,
Renée

Thanks you for your kind words. Yes, it will be Pendleton. The MOS I chose is Security Forces. I have been considering the Reserves so I can to College(which would mean ship out date gets set back to the summer) Been running into so much resistance from the family. Not a single member of my family has served in the Military(except my grandfathers in WW2, for GREECE!) They have the view of “sure, lets have a military as long as we have nothing to do with it.” Your sons are lucky to have such support from their family :)

Good luck to you and be proud being a Marnies. You will do well.
