Maybe because McCain is diametrically opposed to only one Obama policy and that is the way forward in Iraq. Could he honestly take the job and then the next day accept an order to pull all the troops out? He might just have to face that scenario if he did this. I don't believe it will happen.

Oh yeah, one other reason why this wouldn't make sense. If Obama has any political sense he should be pleased to leave McCain in the Senate where he can do what he does best: advance the agenda of Democrats while sabotaging the Republicans. And the best part is that when McCain does it, Obama can claim bipartison support with a straight face and McCain standing behind him on the stage nodding obediantly.

Definitely more valuable than having him in the cabinet trying to fight against cutting the DOD budget to shreds.
