They are probably taking preventative measures against charges of hypocracy. They don't want some Attorney General who is in charge of enforcement of any new gun control laws having an unregistered arsenal in New York City or Washington DC. They won't take the leadership's weapons, just the serfs'. They want gun control and they want to limit PR problems.

They learned their lessons from the XXX-42 administration's problems with finding an Attorney General who hadn't hired a nanny off the books. We ended up with Janet Reno as the third most qualified ideologically reliable woman lawyer for the job. I don't think there was a fourth in the country.

This is CNS jumping to a conclusion. It is most likely a request by Secret Service, whose job is to protect the President. I'm betting an applicant woul dget mess attention for answering Yes than if they answered No and the SS found the applicant did indeed own a handgun.

I'll bet there were similar questions for previous Administrations.

Cabela's in Ft Worth was the same way. TONS of ammunition in 223 was flying of the shelves.

Good news is that walmart has a lot of pistol ammunition on sale. Found .40S&W for a quarter a round.
