Did your Pastor provide any guidance today? (Vanity)
Vanity | 11-2-2008 | Me

I read a depressing poll two days ago that indicated a majority of American evangelicals in their twenties were going to vote for Obama.

I'd be curious to see if any Freepers heard anything today at all from the pulpit about the obligations of a Christian in a representative democracy. I can't imagine there would be many pastors courageous enough to mention a name, from the pulpit, but did any of your pastors urged you to vote for the candidate who best represented the values the historic church holds dear--life, liberty, justice? Did any of them mention any of the pro-life and pro-marriage iniatives?

Personally, I'm thinking of starting a non tax exempt church with no Rats allowed at the communion table. I don't think freedom will really be defended until the men of God actually become "Men" of God.

Your take on today's worship services would be interesting.

My pastor, last weekend, said that people need to calm down about this. Is your faith in a man or in God? Is your hope for the future in a political party or your church?

This is all paraphrasing, but it was an excellent, short, to-the-point slam of some undoubtedly high-strung folks who needed to put it all in perspective.

Sounds like your pastor would have made a good Nazi in the 1930s.

Yes he did. He talked about how ugly and hateful this election has been and asked us to walk with God and act the way God would want us to act. I saw a huge sign hanging on the catholic church in my town today that said that all life was precious and to celebrate life from conception to natural death. The thing was massive and nearly covered the entire fence!

The only advice from a pulpit ought to be “Damn the media, Damn the polls - vote your conscience.”

"I read a depressing poll two days ago that indicated a majority of American evangelicals in their twenties were going to vote for Obama."

See why I resent being called a sheep by a potential idiot with a nice haircut and a suit?

"Did your Pastor provide any guidance today?"

Your pastor IS NOT QUALIFIED TO GIVE YOU POLITICAL GUIDANCE. Spiritual maybe....at least until he/she starts telling you whom to vote for.

The WCC is the Whore of Babylon. The UN is the Beast.

I didn’t go to ‘big church’ (as my kids call it) today.....but I work with the infants during Sunday School. These ‘little ones’ speak volumes to me just by holding them. I’ll be damned if I vote for a person who would rather extinguish these blessings and considers them ‘a burden’. That’s enough for me.

If my pastor preached about politics in church (like Obama's former pastor), I would walk out. I don't care if he was on my side...a pastor is to talk about God, not who to vote for.

I'm sure they'll enjoy it when their new Emperor throws them to the lions under the watchful eye of High Definition Christian Barbarian Savagery (HD-CBS). In these days of the "prosperity Gospel" nonsense, maybe we've earned a healthy dose of viscous persecution...

It’s nearly impossible for me to believe that a Christian could support Nobama. Christians believe in the sanctity of life and that marriage is between a man and a women. I ask you then, HOW COULD ANYONE WHO IS A CHRISTIAN AND BELIEVER OF THE BIBLE VOTE FOR NOBAMA? I just don’t get it.

I like the pastors who are man enough to say, “if you really count yourself a Christian, you can’t vote for baby killers.” Any pastor who can’t say that in, America, is a church-growth homo.

Sadly, I don't have a thumbs up emote, but that was good.

Thank you for the very succinct summation of what is wrong with the American church. The American pulpits of the 1770s were FULL of politics, because God is not just God of your praise band. He's the God your LIFE and your REPUBLIC. You are describing shallow abandonment theology.

I don’t believe it. Anyone can report anything but no way that amount would happen esp. as a black radical opponent such as Obama....heck, if it was JF Kennedy it wouldn’t happen. Anyone can write a left leaning article.....but there has to be some facts to back that up.

"Vicious" persecution I meant. Unless I made a Freudian slip dripping with thick sarcasm...

Bump this thread.

It would be VERY interesting to see how many pastors lead their congregations in prayer, as requested by Dutch Sheets, Cindy Jacobs, the Intercessory Prayer Initiative, etc....

Shameful, the weak, intimidated state of America’s churches! God, please have mercy, by the prayers of those with ears to hear.

My pastor has talked for the last 3 weeks (since we had early voting start Oct. 20th) to vote for the candidate that supports life, traditional marriage and not the homosexual agenda.
