I am not normally of the view that endorsements mean much in Presidential politics. But Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama today is a real sledgehammer blow to the already staggering McCain campaign. Not just because a Powell endorsement shores up Obama's shaky foreign policy bona fides, but even more because of the content of Powell's remarks on Meet the Press. The General showed he still knows how to launch a brutal offense. Powell's remarks were an across the board indictment of the McCain campaign. He threw a subtly delivered but perfectly targeted series of chops at each of the the major fractures of the shaky McCain campaign; the Palin choice, the dark tone of the campaign, the Helter Skelter antics at the onset of the economic crisis. As a great McCain admirer, I am sad to say it, but the truth is the video of Powell's endorsement will boil across You Tube and do great damage in these closing days of the campaign.
If the Mccain campaign were smart, they would say they understood Powell’s endorsement of Obama because Powell was a trailblazer himself in terms of breaking down racial barriers. However, his reasoning leaves a lot to be desired given Obama’s lack of experience and achievement.
He was obviuosly fired (stepped down) from the McCain campaign. That must be when McCain’s campaign started doing well.

Michael Ellis “Mike” Murphy (born 1962) is a Republican political consultant. He has advised such nationally prominent Republicans as John McCain, Jeb Bush, John Engler, Tommy Thompson, Christie Whitman, Lamar Alexander, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was, until January 2006, an adviser to Mitt Romney, the Governor of Massachusetts and an about-to-become candidate for the Republican presidential nomination for the 2008 presidential election. He stepped down as a result of his role as chief strategist to Governor Romney as well as Senator McCain.
For the 2008 elections, Murphy is serving as a regular commentator on NBC’s Meet the Press and The Today Show. He lives in Los Angeles, California and also works as a writer and producer in the entertainment industry. He is a guest columnist for TIME Magazine.
On September 3, 2008, during a segment on NBC, Murphy was recorded making harsh comments about Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin (despite having praised Palin in other appearances), unaware that his microphone was still live.
Mike Murphy, FORMER McCain adviser.
I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal, either. Powell has never been very respected in the GOP, ever since it became obvious that he was doing everything possible to drag his heels and obstruct Bush on everything. And of course, his social views are known to be totally out of whack. He’s quite pro-abortion, for example.
Blacks were already going to vote for Obama, and this won’t convince any conservatives of any color to change, so I don’t think it really matters. It just makes Powell look small and sneaky.
Murphy HATES Palin. Some of you remember the dem convention interview with chuck todd where they left the mic open (hot mic) and murphy & noonan trashed the Palin selection.
Mike Murphy was the McCain 2000 efforts media guru. He worked in the same role for now-Governor Terminator when Arnold first ran. He got his start working for New Right organizations in the early ‘80’s.
A smart guy, all in all, but every now and then he says something quite off the wall.
General Powell, I really respected you during DESERT STORM I but I'm glad you're out of the saddle now and I don't respect your actions at all.
Unfortunately for you, this endorsement will be your legacy.
Yes, I do and it was disgusting. They are the tea and crumpets section of the far left of the Republican party (like Christine Todd Whitman).
How can you be against the war, and accept the endorsement of one of the men responsible for it?
As WFB used to say “a paradoxically incongruency”.
Also an indication that Obama is running out of steam...too bad he hasn't run out of money, but Michelle is working on it with Room Service at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. (See Iranian Caviar and Dom Perignon Champaign). I bet they're buying expensive new clothes each and every day for the campaign. And they criticized McCain's shoes.
Fat, drunk, out of control, and part of Hollyweird.
Wadda ya expect?
...is the Ben Franklin-look coming back?
I don’t trust anyone who is employed by MSNBC. Even Pat Buchanan, who used to be okay.
I guess I should support Ahmadinejad because my dad is from there. I don't know why German-Americans weren't more supportive of Hitler. What was Eisenhower thinking? Gotta support the tribe.
This guy is now a Kool-aid drinker, obviously.
Powell already looks very foolish to the military people he left behind, and who used to respect and trust him
Turns out Colin was a bad decision by Bush 43 AND Bush 41
No one gives a sh*t about powell’s RINO endorsement.
ANYTIME you have a HYPHENATED person, it automatically means they have DUAL ALLEGIANCES!!! The HYPHEN has DESTROYED our UNITED STATES.
Swampland has not AFAIK deleted any of the comments I’ve left there, some of which have been very rough. One major problem they have from my perspective is that they don’t have a handle on spam, which might have an impact when links to my site are on the same page as links to spam sites. However, most people aren’t going to need to worry about that.
And, it’s unfortunate that others above don’t seem to “get it”. Just because something doesn’t sway them, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t sway others. You can’t dismiss things that will sway others, unless you want to lose.
Never listen to a guy who has the first name that sounds like a body orifice.
The kind of stuff comes out of everyones colon, has just come from Colin Powell's mouth.
