I happen to be a member of the "conservative wing" of the Republican party, and McCain was my LAST choice in the Primary. My Dream ticket during the Primary was Duncan Hunter/Sarah Palin..... I was thrilled to see McCain was able to convince Sarah Palin to join his ticket, however I am afraid it just might not be enough.. Sarah Palin is doing a great job energizing us conservatives, however it takes more than "vote for me becuase my opponent is worse" camaign to win an election.... few if any conservatives are excited about the "McCain" campaign which is reflected in the poll, however I am cautiously optimistic than come November, many of us will hold our nose and vote for McCain just because of Sarah Palin.
McCain’s nomination committee had me nailed. I’m voting for Sarah... and ONLY for Sarah. I’m voting against Obama as well, but I wouldn’t have done so if I didn’t have a viable option in Gov. Palin.
a very interesting point.. and one that really gets to the heart of the question.. there are a lot of NON-FReeper conservatives out there that need more than a “vote for me becuase my opponent sucks more” campaign to even bother going to the polls in November.... THOUSANDS of Christian conservatives out there who don’t normally vote, but just MIGHT be persuaded to go out and vote for Palin if McCain just wasn’t so “McCain”
The reason the writer considers himself the LAST conservative left, the only PURE one who would not have picked McCain first would be ...?
The turnout for Sarah Palin, the cheers surrounding Joe the Plumber’s courageous stand — these don’t prove otherwise?
We conservatives are alive and well. And we are undaunted.
I don’t consider myself the LAST conservative.. If that is what you implied.. I DO however know a LOT conservative Christians who do not normally vote.. many Christians believe that God will put the right person in charge without their help, while I disagree with this thought process, I do understand it, and I know that it is a REAL factor in conservative election turnout.
lets see you have a communist fascist mobster dope smoking former muslim "turned" Christian who befriends black racists and white terrorist, wants all our money so we can "spread it" and then we have a guy who has served in the military honerably ,is a tough so and so and will protect America....
there is NO CHOICE.....if you can't vote hussein down the tubes on his "assests" alone, then America no longer exists as I remember it.....
Sarah Palin is the icing on the cake....
For me as a veteran, the only thing I needed to hear to convince me that McCain had to be elected was Ubama’s statement to Joe the Plumber. As I explain to everyone I talk to, that was straight, undiluted and pure Karl Marx’ statement, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”
If we actually elect this commie b@st@rd, our Founding Fathers will be completely disgraced, along with every soldier who laid down his life against the red menace.
Had Palin be at the top of the ticket, I would have gone door to door, given as much money as possible, and actively and vociferously campaigned for the ticket.
The problem with McCain is that I just don't believe these "campaign bed" conversions of his on big issues.
True. But I maintain that the nomination of either major candidate is a disgrace to everything we hold dear. McCain is nothing more than a pro forma candidate, a la the Bob Dole cannon fodder. With the exception of the Palin nomination (which I maintain surprised him with the approval it got), he reminds me a lot of both Dole and Thompson's primary run.
Thank you for sharing that.. I understand exactly how you feel.. and while I personally disagree with your NOT voting for McCain/Palin.... you are NOT alone in your feelings, which is why I posted this question to begin with.. if enough conservatives vote the way you did we WILL have Obama in the White House for 4 years, and the REPUBLICANS only have THEMSELVES to blame.. it was our to lose.. and lose we may...
..there was absolutely no way I would pull the lever for McCain—until SHE walked onto the stage...
Thanks — Back at you, my FRiend!
Probably I misread you, then. I know conservative Christians who also will not vote!! Or who will not vote for either Presidential candidate because they are not pure enough!! Yegad.
We are to be salt IN the world, and we are to be His hands and feet and voice.
Sounds like we are on the same page. These are scary times, are they not?
Windflier, my husband keeps saying, “McCain will win in a landslide. Obama is WAY off the edge.”
I hold to your visions.
That's not my reasoning or that of any one I know. My reasoning is that she is the candidate for vice-president, an almost irrelevant office unless the president dies. My reasoning is that McCain is running for president; and voting for the lesser of two evils--and he IS an evil--is still consorting with evil.
Im trying to get it through these peoples heads that a vote NOT for McCain is a vote FOR Obama.
You won't be able to do it because it is nonsense. A vote for another candidate is a vote against two socialists who voted for the bailout and FOR a third-party candidate. The Republicans wanted my vote? They should have nominated a conservative.
Ah, yes. There's an intellectual formulation for you. You are correct. It is simple. No argument there.
A conservative with any conscience cannot vote for McCain except out of fear. If I were to sink to your level, I could say that anybody who calls himself a conservative and DOES vote for McCain or Obama should be tarred and feathered, no matter who wins.
And what do you think you’ll accomplish by not voting for McCain? You’re a moron if you think that aqn Obama win will teach the GOP a lesson. Grow up! Don’t bother to respond...pukes like you make me sick.
And only the first is enough to win my vote. I'll be voting Palin for president in 2012.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Your frustration is understood, but your namecalling is a bit childish and does not help the matter.... I understand that many conservatives refuse to pull the lever for someone they can’t in good concious vote FOR... I understand that voting for McCain is a vote AGAINST Obama, many good conservatives are not able to do that and I completely understand that, the fact of the matter is they are still conservatives and would have voted for the REPUBLICAN ticket IF “we” (the GOP) nominated a conservative, which “we” DID NOT..
David
Amen brother.
jammer,
I struggled over this decision a lot.. if you go back and read some of my postings over the past year you will see that...
The ONLY reason I can vote for McCain is because the name “Sarah Palin” appears next to it on the ballot... PERIOD.. you will NOT be criticized by me for taking the principled stance that you have.. I can only pray that IF McCain loses to Obama the number of 3rd party votes by conservatives is less than the margin of victory for Obama, otherwise you will be accused by MANY (myself NOT included) for electing Obama..
FReegards,
David
