Bush/Gore and Bush/Kerry Polls Should Give McCain Hope
PackerBoy

Posted on 10/11/2008 5:15:01 AM PDT by PackerBoy

I have been worried about the upcoming presidential election, especially because of the recent polls suggesting that Obama is building a lead over McCain.

But my research here on FreeRepublic suggests there is reason for optimism. At this time time in 2000, major polls had Gore up 11% over Bush. In 2004, some polls had Kerry up 5% over Bush. We all know what happened.

I think this year it will be similar, if not better for the Republican candidate because I believe many who say they will vote for Obama (becuase it's hip or cool or fashinable), actually won't.

Anyone else feel this way?

The 2004 info came from Fox News’ website — and the polling date was even closer to the election: 10/31/04 - http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/110104_poll2.pdf

McCain/Palin will win.

Now if the mad old conservatives would have gotten out and voted in 2006 we wouldn't be seeing this mess. This is the outcome of such POOR JUDGMENT....on ALL their part. Giving the house and senate to the donkeys was about as STUPID as it gets. I hope they've learned their lesson...

I believe that only Fox and Marist were the ONLY polls that had Kerry up in 2004

If you’re a betting man I’d sure like to make a wager with you. Just tell me what you define as a landslide and we’ll come to terms. No way is McCain going to win by a landslide and I’d put a fair sum on it. :) In the end, polls don’t matter anyways, just the electoral college (bottom of page - http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Presidential_04/RCP_EC.html)

Gambling is a tax on people who can’t do Math. I’m not a betting man, never have been — not even lottery tickets.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. The New Zealand Herald is shilling for Obama as hard as they possibly can: which is a sure-fire indication that Obama is going to lose bad. The NZ Herald’s got a faultless record: it always calls it wrong.

Our elections next week are going to be equally dodgy: we go to the polls a few days after you. Because of our MMP system, we all get to vote then the politicians get to decide who is going to govern. Crazy.

Obama’s got it in the bag man ...Lets be real about it . Now we have to first get new conservative blood into the system and rid ourselves of milk toast , lame Republicans. Mc Cain was a horrible choice for us and once again we blew it, just like we’ve been blowing it for years now .I can count one one hand the Republicans who actually represent me ( no Dems at all may I add)

What makes you say that? Do you reckon on an Obama landslide?

I’m just being very realistic about what I see. I think we need CHANGE in the Republican party as it seems we’ve really lost our conservative values and balls. Now we have an anti American Marxist bastard headed to the White House and serious damage will be done to the USA.Tell me you’ve seen the gOP fight hard for what we here believe in !
( Ps I resent you implying that I’m cheering for Obama , that’s insane. Obama is scum in my book as is the whole of the Democratic Party) )

I thought Zogby did as well, right up until Election Day.

That may be so. The time for that discussion is after the election. No point conceding the election until after the vote’s been cast, ay. That’s just doing Obama’s dirty work for him.

Your intention doesn’t really matter if the effect is the same.

I’m certainly not suggesting people do not bother to vote.I’m simply making what I feel is an obvious observation. I , for one, will fight this Marxist tooth and nail when he’s ‘in”.

Check out THIS great news, from the PUMAs over at HillBUZZ:
I was having dinner a night ago with a friend of mine who is a statistician for a well-regarded private polling company.

They do some work for Republicans in California, but most of the work they do is for Democrats or Democrat-leaning operations (Unions, etc.). Anyway, her shop was retained to do a few Presidential polls for targetted states on behalf of a union so the union could decide where to spend their ad dollars for the last week. They did Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Missouri.

After mocking the hell out of the voter id spreads used by Rassmussen, Zogby, etc. (and this is coming from a committed Dem who will be voting for Barry O) she said the results of their polling lead her to believe that McCain will definitely win FL, OH, NC, MO and NV.

She says Obama definitely wins New Mexico. She said that Colorado and New Hampshire were absolute dead heats. She said she thinks there is a 55% chance Obama holds on in Pennsylvania and a 75% chance McCain wins Virginia.

She absolutely laughed at the public polls showing Obama leading Virginia–and pointed out that all of those polls rely on Dem turnout being +4 and as much as +7, when in 2006, Republicans actually had the advantage by +3. She also pointed out that the numbers for Obama in SWVA look absolutely awful and that McCain is running 10 points better then Allen did in NoVa.

Anyway, her companies conclusion is that the election will come down to Colorado, New Hampshire and the Republican leaning district in Maine, which in her opinion might very well decide the Presidency (apparently the district in Nebraska that Obama thought he might be able to get is now off the table).

She said she has very little doubt that the public polling is part of a “concerted voter suppression effort” by the MSM. She said IBD/TIPP was the only outfit doing public polling that was “worth a bucket of warm piss”.

I agree that the Republican party has left it’s core values as has the Democratic party by a severe shift to the left. Bush has been a total sell out and has kissed the toes of the left and they hate him even more. That has led to major frustration in the conservatives of the Republican party. Who knew McCain of all the candidates running for POTUS would be instrumental in igniting the base. That has happened by bringing a true conservative like Sarah Palin on board. Still there is much work to be done but ride the wave to the shore. The glass that was empty is now half full. Defeat Obama then fight McCain and others that get in the way of advancing true patriotism and conservative values. America has plenty of backbone left, encourage that. Your comments at this point are not helping to advance conservatism at this junction. Baby steps. This is war, win one battle at a time. I rather offend you then appease the enemy.

It is my strong opinion that the left is throwing everything they have have to win this ie, lies at the top of their list, media carrying their water 24/7, pollsters singing their tune, thuggery, intimidation is just a shadow of what it will be if they ever get in control. We are in a much better position to fight them now then we will be on Nov. 5 knowing the dems have overtaken all 3 branches of government. Even then I will not give up on my country.

As McCain said “Stand up, stand up and fight, America is worth fighting for. Nothing is inevitable here. We never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.”

What? Polls? Media? Bamabots?

No way America elects Obama. Get some new glasses.
